Whole Wheat Bread
Ok, I think there are some MISCONCEPTIONS out there about what WHOLE WHEAT bread really is. First off, when I look at this so called WHOLE WHEAT bread product (Pepperidge Farm "Natural" German Dark Wheat Bread), it contains 20 + ingredients, 3 grams of sugar. Now I'm no bread expert, but from what I've seen you can make bread with less than 10 ingredients or so. What are all these extra ingredient? Like HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. I'm guessing you don't want that in your WHOLE WHEAT bread. I swear that 95% of these breads are not healthy whole wheat breads, there white bread in disguise.
As part of my investigation I bought the healthiest bread I could find at a health food store. It is certified "healthy," and organic. Exhibit A: French Meadow Bakery, Mens Bread Ingredients of healthiest bread ever concieved of: Stoneground Hard Red Spring Wheat Flour, Filtered Water, Organic Flaxseed, Organic Pumpkin Seeds, Organic Oat Bran, Organic low fat Soy Flour, Organic Wheat Flour, Organic Sesame Seeds, Raw Sprouted Organic Fava Beans, Organic Sunflower Seeds, Sprouted Organic Millet, Pea Protien Isolate, Organic Wheat Flour, Organic Soy Germ, Organic Sprouted Quinoa, Sprouted Oraganic Amaranth, Sprouted Organic Spelt, Sprouted Organic Kamut, Sprouted Organic Barely, Sproted Organic Oats, Unrefined Sea Salt. 1 Slice: 89 Calories Total Fat: 3 Grams (From flaxseed) Protien: 6 Grams Carbohydrate: 9 Grams This bread seems to have 1/3 the amount of carbs as a normal slice of bread with tripple the protien. However I wonder about the number of ingredients. I would like to eat bread in my diet, but I don't want it to have a negative effect on my diet. Discuss. |

Exhibit B is comming soon. I plan to do a few case studies to see which the best REAL whole wheat bread is. This way you don't have to cut bread completely out of your diet, you can have a slice or 2 on your medium/high carb days, if your cycling that is.

![]() And that bread looks fine - whether or not you want to include it is up to you. It is not going to 'harm' you - t doesn't have HFCS in it, nor trans-fats. It also doesn't have other added sweeteners or oils and I would imagine it would be pretty high in fibre as well. So if you want to eat it then just make room for it as a carb source. ![]() |

Good bread is so damn expensive, I bought a $3 dollar loaf the other day.
And I'm so damn cheap ![]() Sucks to be spending $3 on a loaf of about 16 pieces when you could spend 1.09 and get 20 pieces... |
