    Question Stomach Aches?

Ever since I lowered my carbs (to around 75 per day) I have been waking up in the morning with a stomach ache. I also sometimes get them before bed.

Do you think this is related to my high protein/low carb diet? I do not think I am sick, this has been going on for almost 2 weeks.

    It hunger pains.

You're eating too many carbs to be using fat as a prefered choice of fuel, and not enough to stave off hunger pains.

What kind of diet are you doing and what are your goals?

these pains do not feel like hunger pains though.

Meal 1: 2 Eggs; Protein drink

    Meal 2: Protein Bar

    Meal 3: 1 Can Tuna; 2 Eggs

Meal 4: Myoplex Drink (has carbs)

Meal 5: Chicken or Steak, Veggies (sometimes black beans)

    Meal 6: Protein Drink

    * that's basically the diet, sometimes I snack on some other things like nuts, sometimes I have some milk with a meal. I do this M-F, and I eat more carbs on the week-ends. So it's like a 80/20 diet.

Well that's enough supps there. Any reason for them? is work a pain for eating?

How many cals is that? seems awfully low from a glance.

And that protein drink won;t take long to digest (even if it is casein). That could account for hunger pains (if they are indeed hunger pains)

It's a personal suggestion of mine (and others i'm sure) to never eat protein for a meal on it's own. I always have pro+ fat and on most occasions Pro+Fat+fibre.

I was going to suggest keeping carbs at around 40g a day (from pro sources and green veg) and upping fat. Incidentally, not much in the way of Omega-3 in that diet dude.

How is the diet working so far? Are you losing fat ok? is your training still ok?

Could be lack of fibre! Not much there from what I can see.

Have to agree on the lack of Omega-3 too.

Yeah, it's hard to eat "real food" due to work.

Everything seems fine. So, you suggest I up that fat? The only time I eat protein by itself is last meal before bed.

Why do that though? A tbsp of Flax in the shake will slow digestion of the protein....which is what you want if you're not going to be eating for the next 8 hrs.

Protein drinks are a piss-poor choice of grub right before bed too. Think about it, you have about 7-8 hours before your next feed and you eat (drink) something that will be totally digested within 90 minutes, if not quicker. Choose real food man. Something that takes a little longer to digest: chicken, turkey, steak, tuna, peanuts! etc.....

Yes...more fat..from flax...fibre, from veggies...or if you have to get a fibre supplement and throw some in your shake. And if you do have a shake before bed, make sure there's flax in it....but, since you can't eat all that well during the day, you should be eating a real whole-food meal before bed.

Not flax. Fish oils eg cod liver oil.

Doc showed me something that Barry Sears stated about flax being a poor choice for omega-3. Fish oils are superior.

Walnut oil (or walnuts) are good too.
