The one you make yourself....other than that, the less ingredients the better I would gather.
Course if the difference is between a tub of popcorn at the movies or a protein bar....then the protein bar would likely win out.
I asked Laura Creavelle what she thought of protein bars, and all she said was, "Candy". So I'm wondering, are they really that bad for you? What should one be looking for when chosing a protein bar? What brands are the least like candy bars, and offer the best nutrition ratios?

I recommend you take the time to go and look for yourself. Stop in a Sports nutrition store and compare all of them.....very simple.Originally Posted by jaim91
Here's a baked one that will store fairly well and is handy when you are on the go....it's pretty easy to manipulate the protein content using whey and cottage cheese to suit your needs.
Hell If I can make this...anyone can....just ask my wife.... I burn most dinners![]()

This one's not bad either:
STRAWBERRY & BANANA MEAL REPLACEMENT BARS
Makes 6 bars
1 cup raw oatmeal
5 scoops of strawberry protein powder ( 90g of protein)
1/4 cup fat free cream cheese
1/2 cup non fat dry milk powder
2 egg whites
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 bananas, mashed
2 tsp. canola oil (this is the secret to moist bars instead of the traditional dry bar)
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a 9x9 square pan with cooking spray & set aside. In a med.ium bowl combine oatmeal, Protein powder & dry milk. Set aside. In another bowl beat together with an electric hand mixer, cream cheese, egg whites, bananas, water & oil. Add the oat mixture & continue to beat until the two are combined. Pour batter into the prepared pan & bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Looks more like a carb bar.
For the most part, it is....but it's easy to modify and up the protein....just add cottage cheese and whey....plugging it in to fitday or nutridiary takes care of the math.Originally Posted by ForemanRules
I might try that recipe......I will just cut the Oat amount in half. Hope it still cooks ok when I try that?Originally Posted by Gordo
Don't see why it wouldn't since you're not really altering the liquid part.... only one way to find out....at least the ingredients are cheap. A tray of these would probably cost about as much as one commercial bar.
I've never heard of that one, maybe they don't have it in Canada. I will try some of the recipes you guys posted. Really helpful, thanks!Originally Posted by BigDyl
