    Post Workout

    Hi,

I have been doing weight training for about 6 months now and am looking to increase my protein intake now in a bid to further reduce my body fat.

I weigh 182lb, and my body fat percentage is 24....How much protein do I need to be taking daily? How much protein is safe to take immediately post workout? At the moment I am taking 20g in the form of a protein bar....Is this anywhere near enough? I am getting around 150g of protein daily at the moment.

If anyone can give me any advice, I'd be most grateful.

    Thank You.

I usually shoot for 30 grams of whey, combined with 50 grams of dextrose postworkout mixed together with water.

From food and supplements a total of 1-1.5g per pound body weight... As your BF% is rather high, I would stick around 1.25g per pound as a max - so you are looking at ~230g per day.

Safe?? What do you mean by 'safe'??

No - in my opinion that is not enough and it is in a crappy form too...

You want to aim for ~0.25g per pound body weight - which is 45g... But seeing your BF% is rather high you could get away with something closer to 35g... Maybe aim for a happy medium of 40g.

And do this with the use of a good whey protein isolate powder and some skim milk - not with a bar.

Do not forget to add some good carbohydrates too (milk, thinly ground oats, fruit)....
