Atkins is a terrible way to lose weight.

Due to the changes in fat and carb intake, there is a serious risk of coronary heart disease. There has also been concern that high protein intake puts extra strain on the kidneys. The possible side effects of the Atkins diet include constipation, halitosis, fatigue and headaches.

Also, Atkins diet is nutritionally restrictive.

The best way to lose weight, in my opinion, is a healthy diet, with plenty of fruit and veg, no snacking and a reasonable amount of exercise.

Cycling, rowing, running/power walking are nice ways of buring fat.

    Hope that helped.

^ Strongly disagree. Atkins (or other ketogenic based diets) are the some of the most muscle sparing diets. Since insluin levels are low, this means more glucagon, which in turn allows for 'fat' to be burned as fuel. Once/if ketosis is established you are burning fat primarily, and adequate dietary fat lowers cortisol levels, so muscle can be spared to a greater effect. Also, fats (especially saturated) raise test levels and promote anabolism. Yup, you can actually build muscle, and I know for a fact that this is true. There must be a calorie deficiet for results. Atkins is a horrible choice to make for a ketogenic diet. Follow the atkins priniciple, BUT couple it with a calorie restriction, Good unsaturated fats over saturated, and exercise.

However, that's that. You don't necessarily have to get into this kind of a diet to lose fat. It does have some advantages, and it's drawbacks as well. The type of diet ( i.e. nutitionally balanced) and exercise as mentioned above is all that you actually need.

Atkins has been internationally deemed unsafe by qualified doctors etc.... The whole 'diet' is a bad idea. She shouldnt do Atkins. She should change her life style because as soon as she stops Atkins, she'll revert back to her old habits.

There is no magic diet. Atkins may work but at the cost of one's health.

Agreed. But Atkins being unsafe is a load.

Balanced meals and caloric monitering (for those who don't BB).

    It's as simple as that.
