    Girlfriends Diet

Now that I have my diet in check I figured I'd try and help others. My girlfriends diet bothers me, she eats like two meals a day, which are very small. She has had problems earlier in her life eating and I really just want her to be more healthy. For her goals, which is to stay slim and tone, should I propose to her a cutting diet, so she eats basically the same foods, just less of them. Or should she take a totally different approach? Regardless, I know that a bowl of cereal and salad is not enough to be healthy.

she's starving herself and as a result, her metabolism isn't working up to par. are you the only one here that wants her to make changes or is she willing?

She's willing as long as she doesn't "get fat." So would the same diet work well or not?

If she's already slim and toned why would you want to put her on a cutting diet? Why not have her eat at maintenance calories and lift to stay toned?

If you're worried about her not eating enough, why would you want to put her on a cutting diet?

list the details of your diet and we'll tell you. the short answer is yes, there's no reason why you and your girlfriend shouldn't be eating the same foods and simply adjusting the calories to fit your individual stats.

    Exactly...

I HATE the word 'tone' when it is used in that context...

My diet consists of the foods from the basic "clean bulk." Lean meats, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, eggs, brown rice, cottage cheese, tuna, veggies, fruits, ect. With regard to the word "tone," I was quoting her. She wants to cut some fat, and add muscle. Thanks to all

Edit: I know it's not efficient to do both at the same time, but i'm pretty sure she's not going to be into "bulking" first.

Edit: I am not trying to make my girlfriend lose weight, I think she is fine the way she is, I just want her to eat more, I don't think two meals is necessary to stay healthy.

If she's only eating twice a day her metabolism is going to be working against her trying to store everything she eats as fat since it doesn't know when that next meal is coming, it's the worst way to cut fat and add muscle.
She needs to be eating small, frequent meals in order to make those changes to her body and eating clean, whole foods preferably, the foods you listed are all good, you just need to figure out her macros now and a meal plan.

BWx15 is a very general number for maintenance.

if she has been eating this way for quite some time it is likely that her metabolism has slowed to a crawl (as others have said)

for that reason, i would NOT suggest she jump right up to 14-15 calories per pound of bodyweight or she likely will start to gain quite a bit of weight and freak out. all of the advice about small more frequent meals is good - but keep in mind that her metabolism will likely take some time to "recover" and gradual changes would be best.

Exactly - She needs to reset her metabolism. If you did 15 cals per pound right now you would only be feeding a slow metabolism and gain weight.
