Just want to check. (Thanks.)

I have ~2tbsp a day. Yes it is a great option. Cold pressed EVOO would be the best choice. Olive oil is a great source of monounsat fats. Good to get ~50% of your fat intake as mono unsats.
We got any italians to weigh in on the extra virgin olive oil? From what I've heard, extra virgin is the best, and that the best way to buy olive oil is in tin cans, as light somehow messes up olive oil stored in transparent containers.Originally Posted by Mr_Snafu
whats the most anybody has ever heard of taking daily. It would have to make you put on some weight.
Your fat intake should be according to your weight, .3-.5g per lbm.Originally Posted by Aussie_Dude
I've been on the anabolic diet (similar to atkins but with carb loading meals 1-2x per week) -- I have at least 1 tbsp of EVOO about 4 times a day (need lots of fat).
I've heard this too... something to the effect of: the EFA's are fragile and very sensitive to light and temperature. Best to keep oils refrigerated.Originally Posted by garethhe
Thanks...the refrigeration part, that's something I haven't heard about before.Originally Posted by squanto

So, I should geep it refrigerated for the best preservation/results?
Thanks, if you respond.

Well, about the transparent container--I'm sure there is a reason why olive oil is traditionally sold in tin cans, rather than in glass or plastic.
From an encyclopedia:
The International Olive Oil Institute recommends using pure olive oil for frying, since the flavor of extra virgin olive oil tends to break down at frying temperatures, making the added expense a waste. Olive oil should be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. It can be refrigerated, in which case it will last up to a year. Chilled olive oil becomes cloudy and too thick to pour. However, it will clear and become liquid again when brought to room temperature.
^ Thanks.
