    Maggi Spaetzle

I recently came across this stuff, and am wondering how this stuff is.

the ingredients are "wheat flour, eggs, nonfat milk, salt, tartaric acid, baking soda"

it tastes unbelievable, and seems to me like the ideal option for a more starchy carbohydrate thats quick and easy.

    thoughts?

I would not eat it... It simply looks like a variation of white bread to me.

    LOL - just cause I wouldn't eat it doesn't mean you can't.

It just means that it is not your healthiest/best option.

i completely understand, i just thought i had found something that you'd eat so that i could eat it all the time. im still searching because sweet potatoes daily are starting to get old.

what exactly does wheat flour mean? wouldnt white flour be whats used to make white bread where as wheat flour is used to make whole wheat bread?

Wheat flour is flour made out of wheat... If it isn't WHOLE wheat flour (used in whole wheat bread) then it is basically the same as white flour (which is just another name for wheat flour!)...

A great way to tell if one type of carb is "better "than another , is to see how much fiber ther is per gram of carb. That is a good indication of how refined a grain is , the less fiber =the more refined.

Most white wheat breads have <1 gram fiber per 100 cal. slice. While most 100% whole wheat breads have 3-6 grams per 100 cal slice.

So if looking for a pasta alternative try one that has Kamut grain or yam flour or whole wheat flour and some of these have 5-6 grams of fiber/ serving as well as other macro-nutrients that get "bleached out of white flour.

I'd say enjoy your spaetzle once in a while, just balance it with alot of high fiber veg like acorn squash, artichoke hearts, asparagus, and tomatoes.

Yams do get boring and I feel your pain.......I make my own spaetzle and gnocci useing butternut squash as a base....They freeze well and last a month or more in the freezer.
