    Diet critique

I am trying to cut. Currently I am 5'9" 205 lbs, 40 years old. I would like to lose 15 lbs. Here's my average day of roughly 2000 calories. Please tell me what you all think.

Breakfast 8am-44 grams whey, tablespoon natural peanut butter, 1/2 cup oatmeal
lunch 11am- 4 oz chicken, salad w 1 tablespoon olive oil balsamic vinegar.
Post workout 2pm- 44 grams whey, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 16 oz gatorade, 1/2 cantalope
dinner 5pm - 3 oz chicken, 8 oz sweet potato w 1/2 cup cottage cheese, salad w 1 tablespoon olive oil
before bed 10pm - 1/2 cup cottage cheese

I try to drink a gallon of water a day.

    Thanks,

Well, to be honest, I think your cals are too low for you to start cutting. I would add another meal in there somewhere or at the very least, increase the amounts in the foods you are eating. 10 cals per lb of bodyweight is the VERY LOW end a person should start cutting at. IOW - You want to start higher 12-13 cals per pound (approx) then as your fat loss slows down you then can cut cals a bit. With you starting at such a low number, you have no room to cut your calories and not head into starvation mode.

    Suggestions
    1. Increase cals to equal 12-13 cals per lb of bw and distribute evenly throught your day
    2. Cut out some of the Peanut Butter and replace it with Fish Oils.
    3. Add more water. At your weight you should be closer to 2 gallons of water per day.
    4. Ditch the Gatorade - It's full of sugar. If you want something else to drink besides water, then get crystal light - gatorade has no place on a cut.
    5. Increase your protein and complex carbs

    thanks for the info..
this is all new to me. I have trained before but never watched what I ate. Now I have been tracking everything on the computer through Diet Power v4. I guess that is why I was stagnated and frustrated in the past. I was not eating enough protein and was eating all the wrong foods.

Last January 1st, I decided to get in shape. I was 240 size 38 with a beer gut and out of shape. I lost 50lbs and got down to 190 size 32 waist. People thought I was sick! They were afraid to ask me if I was on a diet. April of last year I started to work out. I gained problably 10lbs of muscle in a few months (muscle memory) from past years. Now I am serious and want to get down to a lower bf. I want to keep what muscle i have worked for over the last 9 months. This forum has been a great help. Thanks
