    egg whites

    Does anyone know the nutritional information for egg whites? If it's been listed here before, feel free to just point me in the right direction....fitday doesn't seem to have any information.

    Thanks

    Go here ----> http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/srch/search.htm

    Download the software. This will give you the nutritional content of any food. You can also specify portion.

    My favourite is www.nutritiondata.com

    It gives you pretty charts and all sorts of other things too.

    I am not sure individually but. When I eat them it is like 10 at a time. And this is like 30g protein, 1.75g fat. I read this on the net a long time ago. not sure where though.

    I got that from the nutritiondata site that Emma gave me....I have always heard though that the yolk is where all the nutritional value lies, including the protein...

    Too many yolks will NOT give you cholesterol. High cholesterol is 90% genetic.

    The yolk has ~ half of the protein and most of the vitamins and minerals. It also has all of the fat and, yes, it has some cholesterol too (but as I said - this is not a problem).

    The white has the other half of the protein and very little else.

    And one large white (33g) has what you said - about 17 cals and 3.5g protein. A whole egg (~50g) has ~73 cals, 6.5g protein and 5g fat.

    The yolk does contain all the vitamins and ~1/2 the protein of the whole egg. The reason people donot eat a lot of yolks is to keep consumption of saturated fats, that are present in the yolks only, low.

    Dietary cholesterol has little or no impact on blood cholesterol
    While it is well known that high blood cholesterol levels are associated with an increased risk for heart disease, scientific studies have shown that there is only a weak relationship between the amount of cholesterol a person consumes and their blood cholesterol levels or risk for heart disease. For some people with high cholesterol, reducing the amount of cholesterol in the diet has a small but helpful impact on blood cholesterol levels. For others, the amount of cholesterol eaten has little impact on the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood.
