I drink on average 2 glasses of ice tea a day (unsweetened). I usually add 2 small packates of splenda in each glass. Splenda is Sucralose (correct me if I am wrong please) and I have heard some bad things about it, but I don't think two packets a day are going to do any long term damage IMO.

Necessary, absolutely not. Better off to learn to not need them (sweeteners of any kind). When you think about it, taste is totally subjective and literally, all in your head. Your taste buds and the predisposition of which senses are predominant will differ between just about everyone because of their sensitivity. When you're young, bitter is heightened and sweet is desensitized, that's why kids can handle sickly sweet stuff and coffee tastes like crap. As you get older, things shift and sweet becomes more sensitive and bitter nullifies, which is why things like coffee, unsweetened cocoa, darker chocolates etc... ain't that bad and cakes, sugar cookies and things that require an insulin shot when you eat them are a little too powerful. At least that's one theory on the subject. Of course this doesn't describe everyone, it's more of a generality. |
