    doing low carb...the wrong way?

    I have been trying to lower my bf%, so i started doing a low carb diet with a refeed (carb up) every 4 days.
    After seeing that it was working for me, one of my frineds started doing it as well...but you have to hear what he is eating...he isnt eating all the fish, chicken, beef like me

    All he eats is Cheddar Cheese, and a protein shake made with heavy cream & zero carb protein isolate. He is eating the right % macros and calories, but is this really healthy?
    He eats no real food!!
    I am insisting that he stop doing this, but he is just really lazy. Sometimes he even drinks olive oil by the cap-full!
    I tried explaining the downsides to it: Drinks digests too fast..and regular food is slowly broken down and keeps the metabolism going. I also dont think he is getting enough vitamins and nutrients...i just dont want to see him get hurt because of this...
    He says that all the fat he is eating with the protein makes it digest slower, and he takes a multivitamin a day...

    Is doing this for a long period of time a potential health risk?

    I dont know about the potentiality of health risks, although I'm sure there will be some. Cholesterol comes to mind. He or she is probably not making a dooty on a regular basis and that isnt all that healthy, both physically and mentally.
    You keep doing the right thing, and not worry about the hard headed people as you can lead a horse to water but you cant force him to drink.

    the biggest problem i find with low carb is the portion control, there is none... so it then becomes a challenge it eat normal sized amounts when you do go back to eating carbs.

    55, 20, 25 for protein, complex carbs and vegies (respectively) are a good portion size for me. Obviously you need to stick healthy fats in there somewhere. I usually take in EFAs with every meal, plus 2 tbsp of peanut butter at night.

    lol he is so ignorant...i just showed this page to him...
    you know what he did? added benefiber to his list of foods...

    now he eats: protein, heavy cream, olive oil, centrum, benefiber, and the ocassional slice of cheese

    what really pisses me off is that hes actually making progress!!
    sucks for people like me who actually have to work hard...
