    Raw Meat Diet

Lately, I have been hearing a lot of guys claiming they have friends who went on the new "raw meat diet" where the are eating all raw beef and fish and as a result they put on 10 or 15 lbs muscle. Anyone have any first hand experience with this?

The chance of getting food poisoning seems way to high for that to be a plausible diet.

I doubt they're eating sushi-grade fish, nor is there any significant benefit over the assumed risk for eating either fish or meat uncooked.

I concur with fufu - doesn't seem to have much nutritional merit behind it.

If you want effective protein hydrolysates, eat whey, egg, rice bran or vegetable protein

I cannot respond to this as it is posted in the wrong forum.

    Thanks for the reminder.

First of all, I am not claiming that this is a good diet nor am I suggesting people try it. I have heard a lot of talk about it,though, and I am wondering if anyone has tried it.

Also, the proposed benefit of eating raw meat is not that its high in protein. From what I hear, the guys on the diet claim that cooking meat destroys many of its anabolic compounds including certain steroidal compounds, much of its natural creatine, many amino acids and raw testosterone. In otherwords, they claim that if you eat raw meat, you won't need to take juice because you will get all you need from the meat.

I also don't know how much fish these guys are eating. It may be that all they eat is raw red meat. That was one of the questions that I wanted to ask someone who is on the diet. I guess it started in Australia and has been catching on with bodybuilders in southern California and on the East Coast.

I agree with what has been said - raw meat would offer no real benefits over cooked meat.

    Some arguements against it ---->
A lot of the meat that is eaten in modern society comes from castrated males, very young animals or females - thus there would not be a lot of these "testosterones" in the meat.

Additionally - Many of those same anabolic/"steroidal" compounds you speak of are de-activated in the human digestive tract - thus they would not reach the blood stream to have an effect.

Lastly - I would be interested to hear over what period do you also claim they have put on "10-15 pounds of muscle"? The reason being that, for any pre-trained natural BB, this amount of lean mass would take a significant amount of time to create... It would require things such as a calorie excess, a good physiological environment (that is - appropriate levels hormones such as cortisol, growth hormone, thyroid hormone, the sex steriods etc) correct training (progressive overload, time under tension, volume, intensity, load etc etc).

Just swapping to eat raw meat would not have altered all the variables necessary to cause lean growth...

Sounds like a great idea! Sure, you might get tapeworms or salmonella, but it's definately worth it.

Why then most animals are not dead or sick? Wild animals only eat raw food.

First of all the person that told you all this are either liars or a bunch of meatheads. I tend to think the latter.

Anyway, it's called the Paleolithic Diet. You can't just eat any ol' raw meat and it must be from an organic source. Grocery store meat specials are not gonna cut it I have a friend that follows this diet and he likes it a lot but he does it for healthstyle reasons and can assure you it won't make you hyoooggee! All that crap about it being steroid replacement is just some mis-informed meathead thoughts

Here is what the diet consists of and it's benefits.

For the record, I actually feed my dog in NH a raw diet and her health increased ten fold. Even though she is now with my family and not me, she still eats this way.
