what is the deal with diet soda

Most diet sodas are calorie free...but there must be a catch. Are these at all bad for you? I had cut all soda from my diet for 8 months but this past week I have had a couple diet sodas. What is the deal with these.

Well I figured that from the 0 calories. I don't drink soda for general health, I am actually trying to put on weight ATM.

Here is the thing with diet soda and any non-nutrative sweeteners:

Your body is amazing at judging how many calories you have taken in. It is able to do this by judging the viscosity and sweetness of foods. Food that are higher in viscosity are judged to be higher in calories. Foods that are higher in sweetness are judged to be higher in calories.

Once you start taking in these "new" foods that are very viscous yet still low in calories, or foods that are very sweet but are low in calories, your body becomes inable to judge how many calories it is taking in. Over time, it ditches this mechanism for judging how many calories have been taken in and you no longer have a body that is able to tell you when you have taken in enough calories.

Though it is better for you in the short-term to be eating the lower-fat and lower-sugar foods, it is far better in the long run to just eat traditional healthy foods. Drink water instead of diet soda. If you want a little flavor, put some lemons or a little cranberry juice in your water.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. I occasionally put some lime juice in my water for flavor.
