Heating whey will denature it from my understanding. I wouldn't do it. Maybe when its done you can mix the whey in then.
Can you mix whey (my choice chocolate) into porridge when cooking it, silly question but I just want to know if heating whey makes a difference.

It is my understanding that it will depend on why you are adding the whey.Originally Posted by flint blackman
Yes - heating it will alter the tertiary structure of the proteins in the whey. This means that it will alter the biological activity - i.e: it can lose the function of an anti-cancer agent, immune stimulator, growth hormone stimulator etc etc. So if you are taking it for these reasons then you may want to skip the heating.
However it will still be a protein composed of amino acids. And if the temperature of cooking is not extreme then the biological value of the protein is not altered greatly and it will still be digested and absorbed as before.

Thanks for the feedback guys, When I cook my porridge I tend to use more oats than milk because I prefer it more solid but I do use sugar for taste, so could I replace it with whey after it's cooled down abit and mix it into the porridge.
Btw I eat alot of porridge each day, is that a bad thing?![]()
As long as it fits with your diet goals/requirements, and as long as you are getting a nutritionally balanced diet (all the correct vitamins, minerals, fiber, enough protein and your essential fats), then eating a lot of porridge is fine.Originally Posted by flint blackman
