    bran.vs oats

yesterday i didn't find enough whole grain oats in the market so i decided to get some wheat bran flakes ........it's nutrition value where even beter than oats , same amount of protein and lower in carbs and so high in fibers .......but i don't know if the oats is better since it has a very low glycemic index...(what about barley is it as good as oats? )

any body here tried bran flakes before....i tasted it and it's delicious..

Cereal is always worse because you have milk which has either sugar or fat. Then the cereal is a way higher GI.

Oat Bran versus Oatmeal. Oatmeal wins, because oat bran has a higher GI.

Basically if something tastes good, it's bad for you.

Seriously, walk into any super maket. 99% of the food is bad.

but considering the bran could it be a second choice for me if i didn't find the oats? .....i mean it's not that bad , like other cereals it's brown ...and rich in fibers .

If you have problems with oats, or oatbran, try barley bran. Its very low GI / glycemic load, and it binds minerals (from grain phytates) in gut less than other (oats or bran) grains do..plus its an excelent source of both soluble and insoluble fiber.

I can't eat bran flakes very often without causing insulin problems (except in very small doses).

I was referring to carbs to add directly to shakes in the exertion time-frame.

I think you have this backward. Both are great choices, but oatBRAN actually has a slightly lower GI
