pro/carbs/fat/overall cals matter as much with gaining strength compared to mass?

i like my overall size and im not concerned with gaining any more mass. if it comes whatever if not i dont care i do however want to continue getting more powerful and sytronger i used to play football for community school and stuill do mainly the workouts i did for ball which were ure basic compound movements. ive noticed alot of olympic powerlifters are small when it comes to muscle mass but mroe powerfull than a 500lb guy with 6percent bodytfat. so im wondering can i still gain strength and not follow a diet so high in cals like ive always done and like someone looking to gain mass would? thnx

olympic lifters aka weightlifters compete in the clean and jerk and snatch, whereas powerlifters compete in the bench, squat and deadlift. not trying to be a dick, but just trying to get the word out to people because that kind of shit bothers me, its like people telling me i listen to techno....ITS FUCKIN HOUSE MUSIC!!! rant over.

as far as your kcal question is concerned, saying things like a lot, high cal etc is fairly useless as high kcal for me might be 4000 but high kcal for someone who is 130lbs is probably 3000. you do not need to eat ove maintanance to gain strength however i also wouldn't drop under maintanance as that will put a strain on your body in terms of recovering from workouts. you say you are happy with your mass/weight, so eat maintanance kcals and train for strength you'll get stronger as long as your training program is set up and executed properly.

I agree with what he said.

All you need is maintanance calories.

Primary gains in strength are mostly neurological, and that's long before hypertrophy occurs. Strenth is more about recruitment of muscle fibers and contractility of said muscle fiber, etc...

You can absolutely get stronger with out a lot of increase in mass.
