Best diet for running a marathon???

    Hello,

I am planning on becoming a marathon runner. Right now I don't have much cardio endurance so I have a lot of training to do. I am also over weight by about 30 pounds. I figure I'll get lean real fast if I am running long distances.
Anyway, I am looking for the best foods to eat and the macronutrients in order to achieve my goals. I am 175 lbs, 5'7", male, and about 30 lbs overweight.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks!!!

Ambitious goal, but you'd better take the training aspect slowly. I've done 5ks,10ks, a 12k, and a half-marathon, and I'm still not ready to tackle a marathon...... yet.

The big thing to do for marathon training is to condition your body to be able to take in simple carbs during a long run.

For example, on your longer runs Ten miles and plus, take a energy bar, or a gel shot with you and take a small dosage of it half way through. Slowly build up until you can effectively run and eat at the same time without getting an upset stomach.

Once you can do this. No milage is too far.

As far as actual meals during the day. Get your protein in, and tons and tons, and tons of complex carbohydrates. ALOT. Fruit is also your best friend. Drink tons of water. Good luck mate.
