
does ur maintanance increase in cold weather??? i mean ur body burns more calories to get some heat .....or it is something that could be neglected???


Ermm... Lets see if I remember correctly... Shivering I think has a requirement of ~1.3 x Basal metabolic requirements....
So - if you consider that 'basal' (complete rest) is usually something around 10 cals/pound/day (~22 kcal/kg/day) then 1.3 = ~13 calories per pound per day (~28.6 kcal/kg).
So if you weighed 150 pounds
SHIVERING = 13 x 150 = 1950 cals for a whole day of nothing but shivering.
So compaired to doing nothing (10 x 150 = 1500) you would burn an extra 450 cals over 24 hrs.... Of course - that is shivering for a complete 24 hrs....
So just being 'cold' would not 'cost' as much as that...
