aspartame, fake sugar etc.

What is your opinion on yogurts, fruit drinks, etc. sweetened with aspartame and other sugar imposters? I try not to have it too often but sometimes I will cave in if I want something sweet but don't want the sugar overload.

I am also a chronic gum chewer and unfortunately sugarless gum contains fake sugar too.

How bad for you is aspartame really? Opinions?

Do you ever use fake-sweetened products like fat-free yogurt, or have it in your coffee, etc.?

I stay away from Aspartame but I use Splenda. Who knows maybe in 5-10 yrs Splenda will not be good for you either.

I heard about another natural sweetner called Stevia but that is more expensive and harder to find.

Splenda isn't all it's cracked up to be. The standards of "0 cal" or "zero sugar" are too lax. It can contain 3g of sugar/serving and be called "0 sugar" and 5g for "low sugar", plus, dextrose is used, and that can potentially spike insulin levels, regardless of calories, carrying the bad aspects of sugar w/ it. The aspartame scare is bunk IMO.

PS: Don't bake w/ splenda, tastes like crap. Did it last night. It's good for sweetening tea and other drinks (kool aid). but large concentrations (cups worth) are bad

Foo Fighters is a fuqqin' candy-ass girl band but you've got that mother-fuqqer submitting songs [for the album], and those douchebags from the Offspring, too."

True, I make protein bars and do put Splenda in it. I don't do it often and I do wonder what happens to it when it is heated. They claim it is safe but so did they about Aspartame. Turns out if aspartame is heated it turns into formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis.

So, every time I do make the bars, I think about this and so I don't make them often.
