Diet soda and cheese are good in moderation, but I stay the heck away from chips cus they maybe 'low fat' but contain alot of calories, baked potato/ wedges are good instead

I never ever drink pop and I stay away from diet pop. Someone who was very close friends with a mortician told me once that the mortician can easily tell which deceased persons drink diet soda regularly without any blood/muscle sample. How does he know? By the time the deceased person arrives at the mort, he/she has already been half-way embalmed from that splenda/sugar substitute shit. My advice? Drop that crap and drink straight tea without any additives.

I agree with asicx about soda, though I never heard the mortician story. I wouldn't drink any type of soda. Closest thing is probably propel water, which I understand is nothing special and over priced so I rarely buy any.
As for chips.. In place of that I occasionaly grab a handful of whole wheat cereal (some kashi brand to be exact).
And I don't know much about cheese.. I would just agree that moderation is key there. I don't eat it

the thing is when ur trying to clean up your diet, ur really supposed to be knocking out all that kind of junk food, not finding alternatives. all those ff/lowfat stuff are just going to make ur cravings worse
the tough part is fighting the cravings, but once u get those under control ull be fine

The diet soda story about people being decomposed is b.s. I stay away from soda most of the time because of the carbonation.

Yeah, stay away from all sodas. But if you do decid to drink some drink regular and not diet. Diet is actually worse for you because instead of using sugar they use a chemical. Makes you fatter and worse for your health than sugar, they use it cuz it's 0 caleries and less sugar on the label.
Good Day
I don't belive that Aspartame being dangerous is BS, or an urban myth as that website would claim.Originally Posted by bigss75

I'd always suffered from intense migranes as a teenager, and when I got into my 20's I started getting symptoms of low blood sugar (memory problems, shaking etc). Went to the doctor so many times but always the tests were fine. About 4 months ago I read an article on Aspartame that I believed to be true, so I stopped all the diet sodas and guess what? Not a headache since. No more shaking or memory problems either! Call it a coincidence or whatever, but I won't touch anything with aspartame now.
if u look on the labels of such products such as diet coke, they put the words CONTAINS Phenylalanine /Phenylketonuric for a reason..
it is ultimately decomposed into a carcinogen

I agree. Aspartame is doing damage. Try completely removing it from your diet for 3 weeks and watch what happens. I did and I'm still feeling going through the aspartame detox - it sucks ass but I don't want that shit in my body anymore.
As far as soda goes..........the aspartame is the killer in diet sodas. There are so many stupid myths about the carbonation, color etc... in soda. I believe it was Myth Busters that proved them all wrong too.

Don't know about that particular article but snopes.com is a pretty reliable fact-based site. I thought of looking there when I read this thread but didn't think they would have an article on itOriginally Posted by ForemanRules

So I am wondering if I should use real sugar instead of the 2 teaspoons of Splenda I have been using daily (one each for oatmeal and green tea)?????

I use real sugar where necessary now (tea, coffee etc) and just try and keep it to a minimum (used to have 3 sugars in a big mug of tea, now have 1, and I only drink two cups a day, instead of about 5).
To my mind, anything artificial like sweeteners can't be as healthy as consuming *moderate* amounts of the real thing - a little sugar is better than a LOT of sweetener. Just count the calories and factor them into your diet.

The only thing I would eat there is the cheese and only if it's real cheese not the Cheez Whiz crap, you can keep your Aspartame rot gut and hydrogenated vegetable oiled fake foods to yourself.

Jodi, I too decided to cut aspartame from my diet (recently), as I would consume 2 cans of soda, and 5 sticks of gum a day. I am just starting to 'detox' and was wondering, once I have been fully (or mostly) rid of the aspartame, will 1 stick of gum, or can of soda, say a couple months from now force me to start the whole process over again?
