Did anybody see the Today show this am?
They had a health segment about a drug that helps people NOT regain weight after they come off a diet - called leptin.
I couldn't find the story on their website - but I wanted to share it with you because it was infuriating....... They said your metabolism gets screwed up when you diet and if you gain weight after you get off a diet - it's not your fault - it's your body's fault. SO they are trying to get this drug approved and apparently people who ended their so called diets didn't put their FAT back on.... Do I even have to say it? PUT DOWN THE DONUT FATTY AND THE WEIGHT WON'T COME BACK! I can't believe they aired that story!

Go off a diet? WTF? Ever hear of eating healthy all the time!! One thing I can't stand is a fat ass stuffing themselves full of crap. Walk into a Mickey D's and see how many over-weight people are munching down on BigMacs. Disgusting!!!!!

I want to add this......A guy I worked with had a major heart attck last friday. He had took the day off. He had ordered some gravel for his driveway and was shoveling gravel when he started feeling funny! He went inside and he said the pain from 0-10 was a 12!!!! He said it felt like a elephant standing on him! His wife immediatly called 911~ He ended up having SIX stints put in! Evidently he had total blockage!!!!!! And he smokes like crazy and his diet is the pits! Someone had told him in the hospital he was lucky to be alive and he was going to have to stop smoking! He said he would cut back! HELLO!! What do you think caused it in the first place! People have to be willing to change their lifestyle!!! Hope he does some soul searching!!!

The healthy family is becoming less and less. I get so pissed off when I see "so-called parents" let there kid eat fat filled fries and donuts. You need a license to drive a car any dumbass can be a parent.

What's worse is the parents who stuff their kids full of fast food crap and then put them down for being overweight instead of setting an example and sharing a healthy lifestyle with them.

Some parents shouldn't even be called 'parents'. They're no more than 2 people that produced an offspring.

My son packs a healthy lunch every day but he gets the pressure from peers to pack junk food. His best friend has oreos in his lunch box every day as a staple and let me tell you he has been sick maybe 6-8 times this year, while my son hasn't missed 1 day of school. Healthy as an ox!

Leptin is amazing stuff. it controls almost everything.
It is the reason why fatloss becomes hard after so long. it is why men with lower bodyfat tend to have lower test levels. It is why some women tend to have messed up menstrual cycles once they go below a certain bodyfat. Some even stop altogether. I got a link to a collection of great articles on it if anyone wants to read them?

I read an article about leptin a while ago.. can't remember where..
If I remember it correctly it pretty much summed up like this:A long time of low-carbing will almost deplete leptin-levels (which halts fat-loss), and the author suggested refeed days with lots of carbs every now and then.. Nicotine increases leptin levels (NOT a reason to start smoking!!) and some bb's use nicotine patches to raise their leptin-levels.. I might have mixed things up, but it said something like that... Oh, and C-daddy, could you PM the links to those articles..?? puuuh-lease.. ![]() Last edited by Jenny : 05-24-2002 at 01:33 PM. |
