Arrow Kidney beans.

I recently became infatuated with dark red kidneys beans w/ olive oil. So these are good for me...right? Now can I please see some posts why kidney beans are a wise addition to my diet.

All beans are good for you. They're all loaded with fiber and protien and are high alkaline foods.

Good Day

This is from an small article I wrote regarding Beans for IM's Newsletter last year.

Quote:
Yes, it’s true they do produce a bit of gas but how can you resist a food that is so darn healthy for you. In addition to carbohydrates, protein and fiber, beans and other legumes are also a good source of zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. These minerals are important for maintaining healthy muscle tone, combating fatigue and promoting energy and endurance. Beans are also a good source of iron and B vitamins.

Including beans in the diet on a regular basis can help control weight and provides satiety. Beans are low in both fat and calories, high in dietary fiber and protein. The dietary fiber in beans helps slow the absorption of carbs, which in turns regulates blood sugar levels and the need for insulin release. Beans may also reduce risk of cancer, ward off heart disease and lower cholesterol levels.

Canned beans lack the nutrients that slow cooked beans do. To make a crock pot of healthy beans doesn’t take much. Check out this website to make your favorites http://waltonfeed.com/grain/passport/beans2.html If you take the time to soak your beans before cooking they will produce less gas as well.

Beans are a highly underrated food in my opinion. They are damned tastey too!

Should I count the protein from beans into my total protein intake? Or is it not a "total source".

It's not complete by itself, but most likely you are eating them with another protein or grain and when you do, it makes it a complete protein.

Also they are low on the Glycemic index. So for those trying to cut using a few carbs low on the chart, they are perfect.

I'm on a cut as we speak and my PT has all my carbs under 50 on the GI.
