    sick from caffeine

About 2 months ago I stopped drinking coffee. I had been drinking anywhere between 6-8 cups a day. I dropped coffee and went to diet pepsi for a couple weeks, then dropped that (and caffeine) pretty much completely.

Occasionally I would take a small (big dixie) cup of instant coffee at work, but would feel little effect. I would also, on occasion, have a small mug of dark roast at my local coffee shop which was also tolerable.

yesterday I went to starbucks and just had a craving for coffee. instead of going with the dark roasted sumatra like I should have, I went with some new flavor (lighter/more caffeine). Now it was the smallest size they had, plus I didn't even finish the whole thing, but I felt like absolute SHIT for the rest of the day. I drank the coffee around 4:00 in the afternoon, and felt the effects pretty much until 10:00 pm that night.

I was restless, nautious, just uncomfortable. I wasn't all hyper or jazzed, and I couldn't even think straight. I felt like I had the flu. I ate two meals during this time, and they didn't seem to help as much as I would have thought. I drank water, and green tea. I was going to go for a run, but it started raining.

Did this happen just because my tolerance is so low now? If this does happen again is there anything I can do to prevent or stop these effects? Would running/some sort of exercise have helped?

Starbucks coffee is shit. I have had a similar experience after drinking just a single cup. It gave me diarhea as well. I also had a fever. Now I just stay away from the stuff.

Caribou is much better, but they're not nearly as wide spread as Starbucks. I don't know what kind of process Starbucks uses to sanitize their coffee urns... If there's too much sanitizer used, people can get diarhea from it, but I kind of doubt that's the problem... They might just brew hot water in the urns(which is what we do) instead of using the sanitizer.

^ The weird thing is that this has happened more than once with their coffee. So now I go to another place that is independent and I have had no ill effects.
