Fat free yogurt

The fat free yogurt FAGE has

TOTAL 0%NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION PER 100gEnergy56Kcal/238KjProtein10gCarbohydrate4gFat 0g

http://www.fage.gr/page/default.asp?id=413&la=2

So .....is the 8 grams of carbohydrate before bed really a bad thing(200 ml yogurt)?

the cottage cheese of the same manufacture is
Energy92 kcalProtein11gCarbohydrates3gFat4g

.......that is 6 grams (in 200 grams).....does the carbohydrate content of yogurt and cottage cheese differ in structure?

so would it be ideal to eat the yogurt with 3-4 walnuts before bed?...the reason i am asking is because this is the lowest fat content cottage that can be found in this country...which is not ideal

Yeah that's fine. Yes, it is a bit different as far as the carbs go. The cultures in yogurt actually eat the lactose so it's not a true count of sugars.

FAGE is Ivonne's favorite I've never tried it.

Fage is delicious. More protein per serving than other brands I get.

Fage is expensive. That was the only yogurt I could eat that didn't make my throw up after 2 bites. I may be able to eat 1 cup of it.

If you have a trader Joe's in the area, they sell a trader joe brand of greek style yogurt that tastes and looks JUST LIKE FAGE 0%.

The macros are pretty much the same:

Serving Size 1 cup (200g)
Calories 100
Fat 0
Sodium 70mg
Potassium 270mg
Carb 5g
Sugar 3g
Protein 20g

It is by far one of the world's most perfect foods. I LOVE IT.

And a container with 2.5 servings costs betwee, 1.99 and 2.49 - depending on whether or not it's on sale.

Fage usually goes for $3.99 or higher for about the same size container.

Jodi could you please explain why it's not a true count of sugars? I'd really like to understand.

One of my (ignorant) friends was trying to tell me that milk is only sugar water with fat or something. I told him it wasn't bad because it was lactose.. but I didn't feel I knew enough to have a strong argument on WHY.

thanks.

Yogurt is easier to digest than milk. Many people who cannot tolerate milk, either because of a protein allergy or lactose intolerance, can enjoy yogurt. The culturing process makes yogurt more digestible than milk. The live active cultures create lactase, the enzyme lactose-intolerant people lack, and another enzyme contained in some yogurts (beta-galactosidase) also helps improve lactose absorption in lactase-deficient persons. Bacterial enzymes created by the culturing process, partially digest the milk protein casein, making it easier to absorb and less allergenic. In our pediatric practice, we have observed that children who cannot tolerate milk can often eat yogurt without any intestinal upset. While the amount varies among brands of yogurt, in general, yogurt has less lactose than milk. The culturing process has already broken down the milk sugar lactose into glucose and galactose, two sugars that are easily absorbed by lactose-intolerant persons.

Just tried a cup of yogurt included my post-run shake this morning and it was quite satisfying.. Also fit well into the macros so I might stick with it. Just need to pick up one of the recommended brands instead of this "Great Value" cheap nonfat/plain stuff.

Oh yeah thanks for that great link Jodi ! I underestimated yogurt

yeah, it was good but not worth the extra money at all IMO. I didn't like it anymore than the active 8 that I usually get and the active 8 is a about 1/8th of the price.

That's too bad. Oh well... different strokes for different folks, as they say! I just can't eat another kind of yogurt now, if I can help it.
