Hi there It's good to be here.

Can you help me with a diet Questin?
I am wondering whats the difference between sugar and fat.Does sugar turn into fat?
I love fruit and could eat a box of fruit in a sitting but all that sugar can be bad right?

I'm pretty good starting out
I eat 3 eggs on 2 pieces of whole wheat toast Usually poached sometimes scrmbled with a little butter

Then an hour later I train (I am doing Arnie's Level one from his Encyclopedia)
15 -30 mins after i have an EAS protein shake which I put in some frozen fruit that i cut up once a week and freeze (some frozen strawberries, bananas,
nectarines and some skim milk)

Lunch is usually a wrap of some sort either grilled chick, or roast beef or tuns salad.

At 3/4 pm I have another shake

8 pm I eat dinner usually steamed veg with rice and meat or fish all of it clean.

Usually hungry by 10/10.30pm.Should i eat fruit at that hour or have another shake without the fruit in it.

Any ideas or coments greatly appreciated.
By the way I am an ectomorph who ways 198 and is 5 11

My physique is slender with a waist line that is getting a tire.

First of all, DON'T listen to anything in Arnold's book. sorry to say this but that book is a waste of money, but hey it was the first book i got about BB'ing so don't worry we've all been there

Second, go read all the stickies at the top of this page and you'll get a handle of the basics. some of the stuff there might be over your head, but do some googling and reading and you'll have a good grasp of dieting sooner than you think.

In response to your question, sugar and fat are two different nutrients. Sugar is a carb that is the primary source of fuel for your body, fat is a nutrient which is involved in many areas of your body, from producing hormones, to being an integral part of your cell's walls (phospholipid bi-layer), to insulating/cushioning your body/vital organs and finally as a way to store large amounts of energy for use during times of starvation. unfortunately that last item leads to spare tires and 'junk in the trunk' but nothing we can do about it except learn how it al works and use that to our advantage!

You're meals for the most part should be balanced with a good amount of protein, complex carb and healthy fats (which are mono and poly unsaturated).

Hi Reser, welcome to IM....

Sugar in various forms is the favored fuel for the body (ultimately glucose). While fat is the kindof fuel most of us have in abundance stored all over our bodies.

When you eat sugar, depending on what the source was (fruit, candy, complex carbohydrates like oats and grains, etc.), it will get digested and stored either in your liver, your muscles or your blood. Any excess sugar gets converted into fat and stored that way.

So to answer your question, "Does sugar turn into fat?" - Yes, it can. That is why you have to watch your sugar intake if your goal is fat loss.

A box of fruit? Are you talking about fresh fruit? dried fruit? There is a big difference, as fresh fruit contains a lot of water and you can eat a lot of it without causing quite as much damage as if you ate the same weight in DRIED fruit.

Regardless, how much fruit do you normally eat?

So far so good, though i'd toss the arnold book and get something a little more reputable... I will search for a thread that P-Funk made some book suggestions in, and come back and link it (or if anyone else finds it first, please post it for Reser, thanks!)

What kind of wrap? Flour? Whole wheat? Just in case you are not willing to part ways with yoru wraps, consider getting whole wheat, spelt, or sprouted grain (best) wraps - you can usually find these at the healthier supermarkets, or in the regular supermarkets in the "health food" sections.

What's in this one?

What is your definition of "clean"?

I'd stick to something with more protein and fats here... Either a casein protein shake with peanut butter/almond butter or flax oil, or some cottage cheese (with some lower-sugar fruit like canteloupe or a small amount of berries, etc.), or nuts. Or yogurt (fat free, plain with your OWN add-ins, rather than the fruit-on-the-bottom store-bought crap).

I would limit your fruit intake to 2-3 servings a day. Try to stick to berries, apples or Grapefruit.
