Opinions On Calories...

Ok this one could stir a big debate...

Right, question is 'Do YOU think CALORIE INTAKE' is the end result of weight change?'

Two exaples... (1) To LOOSE weight you MUST be in a caloric defict. (2) To GAIN weight you MUST be in a caloric surplus.

Is that the be all, end all ?

The thing both examples have in common; Eat what you want, when you want as long as the calories are in check you will acheive your goal. TRUE or FALSE ?

I don't so much query example number two, as it makes most sense you must have energy spare to create new tissue. ALTHOUGH in some cases I'm almost certain it is possible for a young man, beginning strength training to gain muscle whilst in a caloric defict.

Anyway, example number one on the other hand...I do argue my case against.

Howcome my dad eats little to fuck all, all day, every day. (I'm not sayin this is healthy!) I shout at him! Morning maybe he eats 2 slices of toast with a cup of tea, dinner grabs a snack, sandwhich or sausage roll/drinks pop. Waits till tea time for next meal...which is good actually (Thanks to myself and my mother! )

OK and that's it...This is way below his maintenance. It wouldn't be enough for me to survive let alone him who is a good 3 stone heavier. Oh and I forgot to mention; he is extremely active he doesnt stop all day!

This is just one example, there are many more men/ppl that are like this, and don't change at all...Bodyweight/Body Composition.

I just think there is more to it, it goes beyond calorie intake...

Your thoughts? Discuss.

Cow Pimp - If you don't train your legs you're a dumbfuck. I'm not going to elaborate on why. If it isn't obvious to you, then you deserve the marginal results that you get and hideously unbalanced/injury prone physique that you will build.

Yes Yes Yes...BUT my dad doesn't eat like a pig, he eats like a little girl. BUT he looks more like the pig of the two Many ppl do this. They starve but survive and don't loose weight at the end of the day.

I eat like a pig in many people's eyes but I stay lean. Is the difference the quality of food? I eat clean/healthy and lots of it. My dad and other examples eat junk but little of it!

Foreman, going of this statement, I'm suggesting you strongly believe in 'YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT'

Right if I were to come to you, and say what would you reccomend for my diet/how to be structured etc. to gain muscle.

Would you say...Your young just eat lots of healthy food and lots of protein. (OR) say, just take in slightly more calories than you are burning off and you will look gr8 and achieve your goals.

And if someone came to you to cut some bf, would you say eat healthier and maintain a clean diet (or) again say, eat what you want just make sure calories are in check.

I've stated my beliefs, I just want other people's believe's/opinions on calories.

No he doesn't drink actually, and if he does, which is rare its Non-Alcoholic

But he is a big smoker! filthy habit!

Also this was another blunt reply. You still havent stated your opinion on calories. Lol, the whole point of this thread.

If your body is in starvation mode will you just plateau at whatever weight/body shape is at that point? Because it sounds like he doesn't eat very much at all.

yes i agree and as well when your body goes without eating it does go into starvation mode which is one of the worste things you could possibly do. at least that is if you take your health and body building serious.

when you dont eat and your body goes into starvation mode your body starts eating away at muscle and this is the opposite in what you want to do. at least that is what i would think....

if your looking to get lean and/or massive then you should eat at least 5 meals a day. the meals should be of variety such as good calories, good fats, protein, and high fiber (veges). I myself eat 6 meals a day spaced every 2-3 hours and this keeps me feeling great at all times. i have more energy and am stronger in the gym. if you dont get enouph of your requirements then i can say what most likely will happen - you will BE WEAKER IN THE GYM!

There is no 'opinion' on this. If you eat more than your maintenance you will put on weight; if you eat your maintenance you will stay the same; if you eat less than your maintenance you will lose weight.

C'est fini.

smoking + extremely calorie deficit + bad food choices = low metabolic rate..

and by the way eating lower calories than you burn won't do the job it'll just make you skinny fat .... cause your body won't keep the muscles without enough protein intake ....you could eat less calories than you burn all from ice cream......also having all calories from sugars will raise your insulin levels in blood wich will prevent fat loss ...

so the key for losing weight is having enough protein intake + eating low gi foods and decreasing sugars +eating less calories than you burn ...

Come on you guys. Yes if your in a calorie defiet you will lose weight. But what kind if weight are you losing. If you are eating niothing but sweets you are probably losing as much mucscle as fat.. Now if you are eating clean with high proteins, your going to burn more fat then muscle.

If your intake is higher then maintence, your going to put on weight. But again if it's all sweets, your going to put on nothing but fat. Change that diet and make it clean with higher then normal proteins, you'll add muscle also.

yep. whey protein is also a good choice because it will ensure that you get the required protein that you need.
