Eating 200%DV sodium

first off, what the heck is sodium?

I just recently learned how to read the 'nutrical facts' label, and found that food i've been eating has tonnes of sodium in it. Does this crap make you fat or anything?

I love dog meat.

It is Salt.

Apparently you should not consume more than 6grams per day of Salt, this can be quite hard especially if your bulking, you would be suprised how salt seems to be in the majority of foods nowdays. Also sodium is not the same as salt. Salt = sodium * 2.5. Therefore if a product says it has 0.5grams of sodium, it has 1.25grams of salt. Sodium chloride is the compound that is used for salt.

Yeah - Alot of people are really anti salt. What it does (before being excreted) is cause your body to retain water. So if it's retaining water you'll retain weight - don't confuse that if you're cutting and not shedding pounds - calipers would be better here.

Also retaining water's main problem via salt is it causes the blood to have more volume (more water in the blood = more blood really). This can cause hypertension / high blood pressure simply because there's more liquid in the same area - like to much air in a balloon.

over 14g of sodium chloride a day is considered excessive.

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 3g (i think that's bullshit).

How much are you getting? the blood pressure problem is if you're haveing insane amounts - the kind of amounts people get from eating KFC everyday. if you're getting it from healthy food it's more than likely fine.

it can also cause you to excrete potasium but that's not hard to get back etc.

-Yet another post i've turned complicated for NO GOOD REASON :>

Moderation is the key. Too much by the daily standard is just that a standard. If you do not have blood pressure issues or any kidney issues (basically in good general health) the body will just flush the excess salt out. You do need to maker sure you are getting plenty of water to help flush the salt from your system. Remember moderation and water.

If you always have a great day, you will always have a great life.
