    Thickness ingredient

Does anyone know what they use in Slimfast drinks to make it rich and creamy.
I have made my own smoothie that I am going to use like the slimfast crap but I want it to be thicker. Mine of course has higher protein, Low fat milk, and uses fresh fruit, and flax seed to get all the right ingredients. but I would like for it to be thicker. Any Ideas.

    thx

Yogurt, IMO, is the most beneficial thing to add. You get the probiotics, calcium and decent source of protein all in one. Be sure to get the fat free, plain yogurt and sweeten it by adding fresh fruit such as strawberries and then add your protein powder.

If you can get it in bulk, use inulin. Inulin is a wonderful little carb. It is PURE fiber, it improves bodycomposition, and it improves taste (its very sweet) and mouthfeel, as well as thickness. Its why we have added it to SUSTAIN.

Oh, pasteurized egg whites from egg whites international can also add thickness, and quality protein, with almost no taste.

Inulin is definately a good choice but you will need to test your tolerance. Some people can't use much of it at all without having gastrointestinal problems. It's a trial and error type product but a good and healthy choice.

I think this is only at high doses. And you don't need a lot for thickness. For example, we have not had any complaints with SUSTAIN.

Did I mention that I can't spell? It's xanthan gum.

Xanthan Gum is a soluble fiber produced from the pure culture fermentation of the microorganism Xanthomonas campestris. It is used in the food processing industry as a thickener, stabilizer and emulsifier for a number of different foods.

I didn't know this was an ingredient you could purchase. No calories?

Yep, the brand I have is NOW. It's 10 calories per tablespoon if I'm not mistaken and it's 100% fiber. The claim is that it has no ill gastrointestinal effects, but I've only used small amounts and would likely not have GI discomfort for that reason.
