    What meat do I want?

What are some of the best lean meats to eat when you begin body building?

I read in here that any beef with "round" in the name is good and from what I have seen at the store that is right. What else can I choose from to get plenty of protien, but not too much fat?

Also, can I use peanut butter for one or two of my small meals per day? Is it too fatty?

    Thanks!

top round and flank are about the best. look for 93% lean or better.and as far as peanut butter go with the ''natural'', it should not have any trans fatty acids.

I just went and looked at the peanut butter label and to be honest...I can barely make myself eat it. It seems soooooo fatty and bad for you. Is it? Is it good fat? I am also guessing that it should be limited but in what amounts?

Thanks for the help. I am slowly starting to get the nutrition puzzle - well part of it.

Natural Peanut butter is a healthy fat, and as long as you don't go overboard w/ it, yes by all means you can eat it. Just the act of eating fat does not make you fat, our bodies need fats! It is over-consumption of calories and/or a completely imbalanced macronutrient breakdown that makes one 'fat'.

Other lean & healthy sources of protein include eggs, tuna, salmon & other fish, chicken & turkey breasts.

What's important is getting enough of the right foods to reach your goal and be healthy. So what is your goal w/ BB, if I can ask?

    BTW...welcome to IM!

Thanks for the help. You will be hearing A LOT from me in the future.

Yes, w8lifter, I don't mind a bit what you ask. I need all of the help I can get. In fact, I posted all about me last night LOL and then I guess it crashed....hmmmm, I hope it wasn't my lllooooonnnnngggggg post! lol

Anyway, if you have a minute I will tell you about me and my situation. In October 2001 I started eating right, working out (very lightly on weight machines), walking on the treadmill, and using the crosstrainer. I have always been heavy and I finally got sick of it and got off of my fat ass and started doing something about it...now I am hooked! It is soooo much of a lifestyle change it is unreal, but I love it!

As the weight came off I felt better and began working out longer and using a few free weights.
When I started in October I was 248 lbs and I am only 5' 2.5"!!! I was out of control and at a whopping 46% BMI. I have exercised and lifted weights religiously at least 5 days a week and sometimes all 7 since I started. I live fitness and I help encourage my kids to exercise and eat right. In January I was 36% BMI, in March I was 33%BMI and at the start of my I was 30% BMI. I am now a mere shadow of myself at 166 lbs., but I am still heavier than I want to be.

In February I started getting more and more into the free weights and I love them!!! I decided I want to body build more seriously...well I am pretty serious, but I decided I wanted to do it right.

In March I started running, slowing at first but now I run 2 miles 5 days a week. In fact I ran my first 5K last week end. It was AWESOME!!

Now for my goal like you asked me I want to lose some more weight but mostly I want to build muscle mass. I was blessed with a naturally muscular body and I want to enhance it. I have been losing weight and building muscle mass for the last 6 months, but now I want to really build some mass.

Some tell me it is impossible to lose the weight and build the mass while others say just keep lifting...the weight (fat) will go. I know that I will be heavier with more muscle. I am not anal about the weight, I want to look good...no not good....GREAT!!!

Oh yeah, one more thing, some people have told me that running reverses the effects of weight lifting. Is that true? If not...cool! If it is what do I do about my cardio??

Sorry for the long post, but I have so much to say. I have soooo much to learn.
