Why should you be lean before bulking?
Curious.

Especially if you are new at weight lifting it is good to put on mass before trimming the fat unless you have health problems that loosing weight will resolve like high blood pressure. When cutting fat you have to be the judge. I think most guys are healthy around 6-8%. Good luck![]()
I agree WB. I have started a bulk at 12% before and hated it because I felt fat the whole time.
Depends (eg: age, if they are a noobie etc etc)....
For a male - If you are looking to out right bulk then wouldn't suggest anything above 15%... 12% is usually fine.
For a female - Nothing above 20%.
