Oh No Ass Gas!

Ever since I started (a) monitoring what I eat, (b) eating almost 200g protein daily and (c)eating six small meals daily (w/lean protein and all natural complex carb w/each meal), I've had GAS so bad I can barely stand myself! I thought that my body would eventually adjust to the new diet, but Dear God!! It's been months now and still... toot... toot... tooooot! It's like chemical warfare gas or something! Killer shit! I've got to do something! It's even when I'm sleeping! It's so bad that it'll wake me (& I NEVER wake up, for anything!).

My wife (bless her poor, gassed-out soul!) mentioned Beano or Gas-X but I was really hoping, like I said, that my body would just adjust. I don't want to be taking Beano or whatever the rest of my protein-powered life, but what else can I do? This has got to stop!

I did an underwater body-fat measuring test recently and it said I was like 30% body fat. I'm actually damn near 10%. They made me take the test over and over again because they couldn't believe it. I knew it was the gas making me super boyant but I couldn't tell them that! I needed a fart before I even got in the water but, seriously, these aren't the kind you just let out little by little and no-one knows. These are the kind you drop in a crowded mall and a dozen people can all he heard to cry "Grargh!", "What the...", "Blargph", "Dear.. urgh.. God!"

Any advice? ...toot.

Well... Shoot... If it's tuna or egg that's causing it, I'm f&^%ed! I've just gotta have my tuna sandwiches and I've just gotta have my eggs with my morning peanut butter on toast. I gotta get my protein from somewhere and I can't afford to be sucking down chicken breasts left and right.

...toot... gasp.... wave frantically...

I have this issue with oatmeal and that makes me sad because I love it. Tuna lately has been causing that issue too. It sucks! Nothing I can really add other than Gas X or Phazyme work well

Hmm... Interesting. I hope it's only one thing causing my problem. If it's eggs AND tuna (for example) it'll take me ages to figure it out because if I take one of them out of my diet I'll still have the same problem because the other culprit is still there. Learning what does what inside me is a big, giant (excuse the punn) pain in the butt!

Food intolerances can cause this. Start an elimination diet. Remove one thing at a time from your diet for 5 days and if goes away then you found it.

Hey Jodi! I knew you'd show up! If anyone knows about food intolerence it's Jodi!

What if, like I said, it's two things causing it? If I take the eggs away the tuna'll get me. When I add the eggs back in and remove the tuna the eggs'll get me. How would I ever figure out it was both foods causing the problem. If I take two foods out each time (eg. milk/tuna, bread/PB, milk/chicken etc etc...) there could be hundreds of permutations! I'd spend my whole life finding the magic combination.

Still... I DO have to do something... toot!

Tuna doesn't usually associate with Food intolerances, So try the eggs, as they are pretty common.

I have a problem with this now, but it's more stomach bloat. I can barely sleep it gets so bloated. I guess I'll try some beano.

Some common culprits are..
Egg (yolks)
Beans
PB/nuts
certain veggies (cauliflower, broccoli..)
Fiber, esp when you are not accustomed to a high fiber diet.

Do you know, im so glad someone has mentioned this! I've been suffering in silence (or not.....parp!) and wondering desperately what to do?

If there is any (serious) advice out there, i for one would sure welcome it!

Also, the production of methane by gut bacteria is a natural occurrence during digestion, so could it be that our gut bacteria are producing more gas due to a higher food intake? Or because there is a higher turnover between food going in and coming out again?

That's was my last meal last night. 2 eggs/7 whites, tomato sauce, spinach, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 2 tbl PB. That must not be a good meal before bed.

LMFAO.

Are you consuming any Sorbitol or Malitol??

THese are often found in sugar free gum/mints/ cookies.

They bring the protein farts to the brink of explosion.

Other than that protein seems to bring a bad smell to farts and anything that increases gas will bring that out, so beano it up buddy.

LOL. That was funny. Jodi says avoid blahblahblah and you're like "That was my last meal last night!" LOL. I feel the same way.

I truly hope this is just a getting-used-to-fiber thing. I've never had any known issues with food before. I don't eat egg yolks. I've stayed away from dairy becuase I heard it makes you appear bloated. I hate beans. Nuts have too much fat for me to enjoy these days (I'm cutting). I recently started having 1tblsp (in total) of peanut butter on the morning toast but I was busy farting long before that! I haven't eaten brocolli or cauliflower for at least a week, but I'm still... shall we say... "ripe"!! I'm really going to have to play around to identify the culprit here. I wonder what it is!

I don't think so. It's been almost 100% whole foods recently. I'll be on the look-out now though.

Well.. we'll see. I'm going to play around with my diet and see if I can't track the culprit down. If it's egg whites I'm screwed because I need a cheap source of protein and eggs fit the bill just nicely. If it's eggs I'll be buying shares in Beano, Inc. soon enough!

I buy them at costco, a big bag is, I think 4 or 5 bucks and they are already cut like fries... taste amazingly sweet like carrots, and you can put them in the oven for fries also. They are so good.
