    Increasing LBM Q.

23 year old, 5'11'', 170 pounds, who works out 4 or 5 days a week following a plan similar to that of a sport fighter (MMA, etc.) with weight training and HIIT cardio.

How closley do I need to "watch what I eat"?

As of now I am generally trying to reduce carbs by some degree say maybe something close to a 20/40/40 diet split, realistically probably more like 30/35/35 unfortunatly for varrying reaons, I'm pretty sure carbs just launch glucose into my system like no other. I'm sure I'll get a better explanation from someone if I am wrong.

Basically what I'm trying to get at is for someone naturally lean like my self will heavy training trump whatever I choose to eat.

    *SIDE NOTE*

I read that the majority of the crap in a real fatty meal can be broken down a lot better if you train within 2 hours of the meal? Myth or some truth?

What you eat will directly impact how you perform, recover and grow.

naturally lean, high workload, and trying to REDUCE carbs?
If you are trying to build muscle, you need your carbs.
If you are training a lot, you need your carbs.

I do agree with the old saying of you are what you eat (to some degree). I mean I'm not trying to wolf down a bunch of deep friend chicken or anything on a daily basis. I was more questioning for the reason that during the weekends I sometimes find my diet going to shit because of the situations I'm in, going to college and living with 4 crazy kids mainly. I'm just curious from a liberal mind set just how negativley this will effect the overall picture of things ya know what I'm sayin?

By reduce carbs I mean prefering to consume fats and proteins before carbs. I typically consume a wheat cereal for breakfest, 2 wheat slices of bread at lunch, and some sort of light pasta at dinner. I don't really count the carbs in stuff like cottage cheese and what not.

Still didnt state your goals. Hard to know what you need etc.

Wow how many calories are you consuming a day like 3500+ or something?

Alright I'll try to put more cabs into the diet, I got a bunch of people saying that. Don't get me wrong though I'm not like going out of my way to avoid eating carbs or anything, just aware of it.

As far as goals...its kinda hard to say...I'm basically trying to stay powerful, keep a healthy heart, look good, and live a long time. Pretty much equal emphasis on it all. I'm not trying to compete or anything thats for sure. My favorite lifts are definetly squats, deadlifts, then not really a lift but military pullups. My goals are quite broad but thats ok because I'm highly motivated and won't easily lose track of the end all goal ya know.
