Ok, so I read this somewhere - maybe here ??

You ability to grow/improve is based on this rule

    80% diet
    10% training &
    10% genetics

Do you think this is accurate?? I mean can you really train shitty, and as long as your diet is on track you'll continue to make progress.. I think 10% for training is low,, but what does everyone else think?

I've always said it was 75% diet and 25% training and genetics. So yeah, I do believe that if your diet is spot on and your training is meh, you will still get results. Diet is most important.

    50 training
    30 diet
    20 genetics

ok let genetics be constant IF you train and you have a crappy diet (not even enough protein) then you won't have any progress and probably you'll be in a catabolic state .....If you do any type of training and your diet is perfect and perfectly subjected to your goals you'll have a good body..

genetics play a big role but unless you are a pure mesomorph everybody is the same in the speed and ability of achieving the desired results .. (I'm not talking here about competing at mr olympia..

Yeah, I think genetics carry much more weight. I know guys who just come from muscular families, train like shit, eat like shit, and are still pretty cut up and big. I don't mean 20" arms, but I'm friends with individuals who eat McDonalds twice a day, every day, drink a ton of beer, and still have a six-pack and 17" guns. It makes me sick... lol

Oh shit its 75 % diet, minimum.

Whether u wanna gain, loose maintain, whatever, ull reach none of those goals if ure diet isnt planned and followed accordingly!

Genes are indeed a factor, for example if 2 individuals train and eat exactly the same, genes will enable the more gifted trainee.

    agreed

1- you can't reach your goal with a crappy diet even if you are a pure meso and have a perfect training plan..

2- you can reach at least 80% of your goal or even go towards it and keep improving as long you have a good diet even if you have crappy genetics and you don't train idealy.

I think putting this into a percentage is stupid and cannot work.

I would say about 60% diet, and then 20/20 between training and recovery.

Honestly. who cares. To even put a percentage on it is silly.

If they are new to lifting weights then they'll get results under any condition , but later on it's impossible to get results on a bad diet i think.

I think the importance of putting a number on it is to show people just how important your diet is. Most people think training is the most important and diet comes second and this is false.

Thank you Jodi - I for one was under the assumption the diet was the most important - that was my reason for starting this, to see how many people agreed... or disagreed.... or thought it was stupid..

All are inhibiting factors and can't possibly be weighed in percentages. Don't eat enough, you won't grow. Don't train, you won't grow.

    Like musclepump said.

Genetics can alter these number greatly.

75% diet 25% training Depending on genetics. IMO.

If you have great genetics..It can all be bunk and some people just naturally are lean, cut and big. Jerks...

I know some of those damn people. They eat CRAP, don't workout and are still pretty ripped up.
After almost 2 weeks... I am back and better than ever.
