I cycle everyhitng. Carbs, protein, fats. I try to average around iso-caloric though.

On workout days, higher carbs, on post-workout days x-tra protein, on the rare day I don't do anything I just eat moderate amounts of everything.

I reached my goal of losing 6% in less than 3 months. I have a new goal, lose another 9% in 3 months. Ha. we'll see.

What it comes down to is Cals in vs Cals out.

So what you choose for style of diet comes down to preferences.
