Is it safe to eat/drink raw eggs?

people who have chickens to mass produce eggs treat them horribly which drops their immune system which leaves them susceptible to bacterial infection and disease. the more known culprit is samonella. last i heard 1 out of every 10 to 12 chickens is infected with salmonella which is passed on to the eggs.
I forget which are better eggs but there is a difference between free range eggs and normal supermarket eggs. I believe the free range birds are treated a lot better and are less likely to contract opportunistic infections but its pretty much like playing russian roulette if you ask me. imo, dont bother just cook them. why would you want to eat a raw egg anyway? |

I've eaten raw egg whites a bajillion times and I've never been ill in the slightest. Sometimes if I don't have any protein powder I'll make a shake with milk + a few egg whites + fruit/whatever.

Haha well since you're 'intrigued'...
Not really, just whatever else you have plus a couple of egg whites. You can't taste them at all, no noticeable change in texture, and best of all, no salmonella yet!!! *knock on wood* |

This has been brought up several times.
The usual answer is the amount of avaibable protein to be digested from the eggs is less when not cooked. |

If you want them raw take them raw, there's some biotin issue but your body has bacteria that makes its own anyway. Salmonella i believe only really effects those with a poor immune system anyway (partial hearsay). I've had countless eggs and never been sick once.

Cheers for your responces everybody, I tried my first raw egg today, after a bit of research, and it was discusting, I'll stick to poached eggs on toast, much nicer.....though, I will try adding some raw whites to my shakes and see how I get on......Thanks again.......
