Question Not your basic FAT question

When you start to loose fat (especially VERY fat people), it doesn't seem to shrink as much at first than to loose a bit of it's density ..

It seems to get less firm before it starts to go away ..

Anybody got a (valid) explanation for this ?

Maybe the skin doesn't keep up with the speed at which the fat is burned. There for the skin is a bit loose so you get a less firm feel.

Basically when you are losing fat mass, you are not losing the cells, but losing the fluid inside them (think of them as water balloons that are letting water out slowly). Your skin unfortunately does not tighten up as fast and can give you all sorts of interesting looks. This is why often people who lose an incredible amount of fat mass sometimes have to have skin operations because they have extra skin hanging off of places.

I'm not trying to lose 45lbs of fat here (Great, now I look like Moby Dick in everyone's mind).

I found that my dad's abdomen is really REALLY hard compared to mine (and I've got abs!),
but if he decides to loose some weight (every damn summer I've got to get him on a diet!),
his fat rolls don't seem to get any smaller, just "more flexible between the fingers"

.. so that's why he usually quits ..

there have been may cases where the heavy set people had to get skin tucks due to their skin not being able to shrink. But I do believe there are a few different kinds of lotions that could help skin tightening.
