    Sleep and gains

Wasn't sure where to post this.

Is it possible to make gains on 6 hours of sleep? I strive for 7-8 but most of the time I'm getting 6-6.5 hours.

Just want to know if anyone out there gets this much, and how your progress is?

Does it make a huge difference? Or am I stressing it too much?

I usually don't have enough time to get 8 hours in which is ideal IMO. I get in around 6 - 7 hours, rarely less. I wouldn't stress it too much man.

I mean I know 6 hours isn't ideal, but is it totally bad? Just want to know if I'm really hindering my gains.

You will eventually when your adrenal cortex overworks itself.

Trust me, I speak from experience on this one.

    I have a similar question...

Honestly, I have enough time to get 8 hours a night. Problem is, I usually can't. My body just wakes up...and it's not like a feel really tired throughout the day either. Cn I still not be getting enough sleep for muscle repair/growth even though I'm not all that fatigued?

What do you mean by "wakes up"? Are you dragging yourself out of bed? Or are you waking up refreshed?

I see one of your problems in another thread......you eat carbs before bed.

I wake at 6am and usually hit the sack around 11pm. So I get seven hours in the bed, now staying asleep for that seven hours is the trick.
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

No i mean I wake up on my own. I set my alarm for seven but wake up at 6:30.

Haha really carbs before bed will hurt my sleep? I'll try cutting them out...

Carbs before bed do affect your sleep

    1. Circadian Rhythm disturbance
    2. Increase Cortisol
    3. Interferes with utilization of IGF-1

Sounds like your cortisol is increasing too early in the morning.

Jodi, what did you mean by this:

You will eventually when your adrenal cortex overworks itself.

Trust me, I speak from experience on this one.
So is there any growth occuring during 6 hours of sleep, will I lose size, or at worst just stay the same? It's weird...cause last night I got 6 for example, but tommorow I'm off, and will probally get 8-9

If you overtax your adrenal glands than you can produce too high or cortisol. High cortisol is catabolic. Then if you keep overtaxing your adrenals, your cortisol will drop and then your body won't repair.

LOL, far from it. I have just actually done extensive research on this particular subject for myself. I've done this to myself and now have to take daily medication and extremely strict diet to keep my adrenals functioning. Trust me, you don't want to go there.....

Curious about this myself; I average 6-7 hours during the week (typically closer to 6) with a recharge on the weekends (usually ~8+ hours). I know I should be getting to sleep earlier during the week

About 5 hours of sleep a night. Then include 6 days a week of training and strict dieting and it took its toll on my adrenals.
