Nice post Jodi. I would also add that anyone can grow their own fresh herbs in the comfort of their own homes. You can also sprout indoors- fresh grown sprouts on salads rule.
Fresh organic is your best option or organic non- irradiated if dried.![]()

Nice. I actually knew what a few of those did, but not all of them.

Good post. I've always felt, the spicier, the better.....

Damn I never even thought about spices that way - time to start buying and experimenting
i thought black pepper was bad for digestion?? i was told white pepper was better?

NOTHING compares to fresh herbs. mmmm fresh basil in my sauce kills it.

I haven't looked into white pepper but black pepper does improve digestion.

Jodi, I've been making various dressings based on your advice (thanks again!). Would it taste good if I mixed any of those in with olive oil?
Oh, and a sad nutritional fact about DOMS: I've eaten more salad in the last two months than it the previous 34 years.![]()

Yes of course! I add in dill weed, oregano, cilantro, chopped garlic, basil, black pepper and sea salt in all my salads
It's an easy way to get in your veggies! You get a lot more servings of veggies in a large salad then a standard meal with a veggie. Good for you

That sounds really good actually - any specific amounts Jodi?
I'll have to buy some spices when I go shopping this weekend
No specific amount, just to taste![]()

Thanks Jodi. Cut, pasted, printed ... and stuck to the ex's fridge.

cool thread, how did I miss this!?
I've read the same thing and always knowwn the same thing myself. ..So does chili and mustard and curry.. the hotter the better.. egg whites and hot hot chili and yoghurt.. mmm
... ..ginger and garlic do that somewhat aswell but as secondary functions. I think white pepper and mustard might even be related.
Nice thread Jodi.
For those of us who don't want to grow our own, how much worse are the dried variants of some of these that can be bought at the store?
ie how much worse is garlic powder than garlic, or dried basil for instance?
Cilantro helps with insomnia does it, I have cooked a few Bobby Flay recipes that use Cilantro. I never noticed anything. Then again maybe it wasn't enough.
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

I've just built nine 2'x2'x6' raised veggie patches in my back yard (out of 2by12s) and three of them are earmarked for an extensive herb garden. Anyone know of a reputable online supplier of live plants (or seeds, I guess)? My local hardware store's selection sucks.
w/thx,
