How bad are your wisdom teeth?

    Are they compacted?

Are you getting local or knocked out.

I got 2 of my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago, just some freezing and they yanked them. I was eating that day, just chewing at the front of my mouth.

They haven't fully came in yet, so that means that put me to sleep, do surgery and the whole bit. Put me on viccodin for 4 days or so to help with pain, and quite a bit of swelling since they still haven't came in yet.

I'm getting the same thing on July 13th. Speaking to others who had them done before, they said that you can't eat much except for mashed/sweet potatoes, pudding/jello, soup, etc. I'm gonna see if i can grind up my tuna and just chew with my front teeth.

Yogurt, bananas, obviously anything soft is good. No doubt you can get away with chicken, something like chili can be good too though it's most likely recommended that you avoid spicy foods for the first 24 hours. Generally you shouldn't have trouble with most things but you might have to cut it up small so that it takes less chewing. Look at it as a good time to 'reset' your metabolism (in other words cheat like a maniac!). The doc will most likely say no strenuos activities for a few days as well as no booze too. Really you won't know until it's done what your limitations are, if you swell up and have bruising which can happen you'll have a hard time eating for a week, but on the other hand you most likely won't have much trouble and in a few days will be eating pretty much normally.

I had all four of mine removed at the same time two years ago and let me tell you, I was not eating ANYTHING that first day. Meal replacements might be good and any very soft food like bananas that you could chew with your front teeth .

Here's the deal. Next Monday they are removing all 4 of my wisdom teeth. So at this point im making a food list. Let me know if there are any other suggestions: Yogurt (fat free, low sugar), fruit for smoothies, i have whey protein to mix with fruit, fat free pudding maybe? i could probably do egg whites. any other suggestions?

Cottage cheese, might want to avoid citrus fruits (though they are my favs with cottage cheese). Oatmeal is fine, fish is almost always easy to eat, the hardest being tuna fish and baked fish (probably depends who bakes it but if i's too dry it gets hard), milk is good, you can practically live off it (well, OK, I have).

I'm not sure why you'd go with low fat pudding, pudding is one of those things that it's either already naturally low in fat, or they'll add carbs to replace the fat, given the choice, I'd rather have the fat, personally I try to avoid anything that is marketted as "low" something because I feel that other health sacrifices are made to meet those criteria (low fat, pile on the sugar, low carb, crank the fat or slap in some sugar replacers etc).

You won't know what you can eat until after the anestesia wears off, or for how long you'll be suffering. Many people have no real problem eating that day and others can barely open their mouth enough to breath. I recently ran across a thread where various people described the wisdom tooth removal and after effects, there was a wide range of scheduled days off and then went straight back to work that day to horror stories of bone saws and chisels etc, just yesterday I had a very discomforting experience at the dentist, it involved a hammer, blood, pain and eventually some anestesia... after that I find myself wincing reading those kinds of stories, and I get to go back for some more of that action in a few weeks (hopefully with less hammer and pain and blood, or at least less of those things directly involving me on the receiving end).

Oh yeah, and applesauce (it's naturally low fat... and well, the sugars up there but if you have to get your wisdom teeth pulled to have a few cheat days then live it up a little).

I want to cheat lots so bad, but I also have to take into account that I will be inactive (no workouts) for one week because if i do workout before that, there is a chance that those wounds might re-open, so no workout for a week. So I have to figure out how to keep my gains, but obviously after 3-5 days without working out it's literally impossible. So i need foods that will maintain my cut without any soreness. Thanks for the extra tips!

I got hit in the jaw and it moved my wisdom tooth. I couldn't bite anything for days, i could barely open my mouth. After a couple days of not eating i started buying tuna with like tomato and onion or something in it and swallowing it like a duck without chewing.

3-5 days without training will not hurt your gains and may even help them. You need time off now and then. The only thing you lose on a short break is conditioning which returns very quickly too. The worst thing about a break like that is the entire time you are itching to work out, when it's finally time to work out again, it can be tough getting the motivation up (breaks the habit a little).

Shouldn't you have some wisdom first before you decide to get it removed?? j/k

I had one of mine taken out a few months back. I guess I was fortunate enough to have it grown in, but at the same time pretty unlucky that it was already rotting out.

Damn did that thing hurt before then though. I received a local and he extracted it in literally 5 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about the loss of gains in one week. Plus I doubt you'll lose all your motivation in that short of a time frame. Stay focused, eat right (don't let this be an excuse to eat crap,) and come back stronger next week.

Im really starting to cut up with this carb cycling too, wish I could stay on it with all this shit going on. I'll stick with the foods mentioned on here, keep it healthy, and try to stick with the same diet idea (carbs earlier in the day, slow down with them late in the day, last two meals no carbs- all meals with protein).

I just had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning, and have been on a cold liquid diet ever since (that's all im allowed to eat for the next couple days). I've been really starting to get sick and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on any liquids besides the ones i've been ingesting which include: orange juice, smoothies, eggs (let them cool down), whey protein shake, apple sauce, and no fat yogurt. I woke up this morning with a terrible head ache and feel really weak/haven't really been able to get out of bed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can you drink casein? It's a slow release protein. And maybe a little dextrose? I can't think of another, non-solid, carb to add. Normally, I'd just throw in some oats, but that may cause problems for your teeth/gums.

Yes, I have casein protein powder. Should I mix it with milk or just water?

You may be suffering from a sugar low. This is a lot more common than most people think.

Try putting a table spoon of (table) sugar into a glass of water and drink it. Give it about 10 to 20 minutes and see how you feel. This isn't a good thing to do on a regular basis, this is just to test a theory.

Unfortunately feeling like shit and having your wisdom teeth removed is something that goes hand in hand.

You are just going to have to try and cope with it. Eat as much as you can and rest.

Well, i just had mine taken out this morning.

So far, i am not feeling any pain or discomfort but my bottom lips, chin and cheeks are soooo numb and puffy. I have been able to eat cottage cheese, yogurt/jello, peanut butter, banana and i'm going to try mashed potatoes soon. The doc said it only took him about 20 minutes to take them out and was relatively easy. Not a lot of bleeding either. I should be able to eat regularly by sunday or monday.

    Shiz,

sounds like you went through nothing compared to what I went through. Hopefully you'll be fine this week.

Ya, i was lucky because they were already grown out and pretty straight. Doc didnt need to chip anything or really cram it out or anything. I still have to wait out a few days once the swelling goes away and see if pain comes but it should be minimal.
