    Must Gain Weight

ok i need some help it seems my metabolism is outa control its like everything i do or eat seems to speed it up for some reason my body wants to stay lean. i have tried everything i lowered my protein and increased carbs and fat, im taking in 5000 cals. a day i only weigh 170. i tried eating more often, less often, i have been working hard at this i dont know what else to try. ive tried waking up in the middle of the night just to eat. i eat atleast 6 or 7 meals a day when i wake up before i lift after i lift all the time people cant believe how much im eating. ive tried weight gainers and as far as training goes im really afraid im gonna have to stop working out completly my reps are low enough 8-10 i try to rest enough between sets but its hard i like to work hard or not at all my # of sets is good 4 exercises per muscle 4 sets of each thats 16 sets i feal like less than 4 sets is not enough i lift heavy im working 1 muscle group per day i cant cut down to less than 4 days a week working out makes me happy to many days off will drive me crazy oh yeah they are 60 min. workouts. i use both but try to stick to free weights i dont like full body workouts i dont beleive u can devote enough attention to each muscle so thats how i train back to my diet i dont eat healthy at all ill eat just about anything remeber i make good strenght gains im not trying to put on muscle alone i need some fat id like to eventually go up another 40 lbs. before i gave up cardio i was a cardio freak ive always liked to run and sweat im high energy i cut weight like a pro its like my body doesnt want to gain weight if it was up to my body id be a track star but thats not gonna happen ill get freakin huge one way or another whatever advice you give i promise i will atleast consider im very determined. i think the first thing we have to figure out is why is my metabolism is working so well im tired of burning fat i cant store anything seriously i begin to burn fat immediatly after eating doesnt matter how lazy im becoming i burn fat sitting on my ass watching tv. i have a full time job so i cant sit around all the time think God my job is easy and doesnt require much effort that should about cover it all i know is i need help im getting frustrated i eat sometimes untill i cant eat anymore i walk around full as hell all the time it sucks its a big change from my eat healthy cardio days oh yeah another thing is i sweat to damm much every time i do gain i couple lbs. i quickly sweat it off before you ask yes im drinking plenty of water. im sure i could gain easily if i could just find a way to slow down my metabolism. a doctor told me my high anxiety and stress level are far to high and thats why i cant gain weight if thats the problem fine just tell me how to fix it. i sincerely appreciate any comments anyone has about this thread.

If you want to slow your metabolism steer clear of any and all stimulants, especially caffeine and products containing nicotine. Obviously fat burners are off limits too. My job can be extrememly physical and so far since I had my nervous breakdown last year that took me from 200+lbs to 179(which I have not hit since '99) I am back up to 191lbs, thank God. My strength is coming back and I eat regularly again but for the longest time I could not eat, could not sleep and all the stress made me drop weight like crazy. You NEED to sleep. Your body needs to rest and slow down so try keeping a regular sleep schedule. Try to get more carbs that are lower on the glycemic index, such as whole wheat bread and so on. Do whatever you have to as far as de-stressing. I work with a guy like you, he's even thinner and he's at least as tall as me 6'1" and says the exact same thing about never being able to gain weight. He smokes though and drinks tons of caffeinated soft drinks.
    Age: 25 | Height: 6'1.25" | Weight: 190 lbs.
    My job is my exercise!

i have not tried the brand Nordic suggested but ive had weight gainers with 1200 cals. like 50 grams protien, 160 carbs and plenty of fat. muscle juice helped me a little thats what ive been using but i keep running out and going like 2 weeks before i can afford to get more. another thing that sucks besides running out its so high in protien 4 drinks alone give you over 200 grams protien which is fine but on top of my other sources of protien meat, milk, eggs, hell everything i eat has protien in it it sends my protien up to atleast 350 grams which i think is too much for a 170 lb guy i think i was sweating out some of it. Doesnt protien speed up your metabolism? I got worried so i cut down the protien and increased fat im trying to keep my carbs up as high as possible.

It's the law of protein turn-over.

    30-50 grams EVERY 2 HOURS.

I NEED 50, as I am a very big person.

The Beast, NEVER cut your protein down and increase your fat intake bro. If you are looking to gain weight , weight 170, and are getting 350 grams of protein, that is about 2g protein per lb. of bodyweight.... and the recommendation is 1.5-2g/lb. of bodyweight so when u do the math your protein intake was fine. Protein builds muscle bro, not fat. And try to make your carbs complex except right b4 and right after u workout, that way your weight will be of more quality.

EAT! trucks, tons and loads of protein, fish, beef, pork, etc. Try to stick to real food and onyly SUPPLEMENT your intake with shakes, not base ure diet on them.
EAT! loads of good quality carbs and fats, include a boatload of fruit and veggies, dairy, whole grains, nuts...
EAT! EAT! EAT! every 2 hours, even when not hungry, force it down, plan 7 X 600-750 cal. meals per day(based on the fact that U say i take in 5k cals already right?)... Plan as in prep and pack them and actually eat them, no matter what.
EAT! supplement before and esp. within 1 hour after workouts.
    TRAIN heavy, intensly, with purpose.
Life is what you make of it, not what it makes you...TAKE CHARGE!

Hmmm......... sounds like the problems I had at your age. If you are for real and not exaggerating.... Get some labs on your TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level from a better doctor. See my post here: Lucky at 43

I havent been as consistant with the cals. as i could be and i havent tried to up it by 500 every 2 or 3 weeks my minimum is atleast 4000 i have been hitting that but somedays its just over 4 other days its 5000 so everyday has been off by a couple hundred or even a thousand. for 170 lbs. 5000 should be more than enough right? id rather it not be a slow gain but that would be better than no gain at all. Ya Know i love working out i train with high intensity thats the only way i know how ive got some lean muscle goin on and i consistantly get stronger but i didnt know putting on weight was gonna be harder than getting stronger i didnt know i was gonna have to work even harder out of the gym laugh if you want but eating all the time is a job on its own people dont realize you gotta keep track even wright it down and dont miss a meal ever.
