I've read so many different things about this. You are supposed to wait an hour after you work out to eat. But then you are supposed to consume the shakes right after you work out. What is the best to do? What I am trying right now is this. (and i'm trying to get lean, not big, so please tell me if this is a bad idea.) I wake up. Make a shake that contains 20 grams of protein. I go to school for 2 hrs, then go work out for an hour. It takes a good 30 minutes to get home. Right when i get home i have a shake that contains 40 grams of protein, then i wait an hour and have a regular meal. I eat very healthy for the rest of the day. First of all, is this ok to do? They are both Whey Protein Shakes. And second will this make me lean. I don't want to gain weight because i'm already a big guy with a large build. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think you need some serious food in the morning there. Are you not hungry? I'd be starving! Food isn't a bad thing. Eating a good breakfast will ensure that you make healthier food choices later in the day because you won't be starving.
As for eating after working out, it's common practice to drink a liquid shake (or smoothie) right after working out because liquid form is digested the fasted. Personally, if I have time, I take a shake right after, then cook a meal of protein and carbs and eat that 30-45 minutes later. But, sometimes I just have the meal. In your case, since you haven't had food for so long, I'd be eating a good meal. You don't say what type of workout you're doing...cardio or weights. If you're doing weights after only having a shake 2 hours earlier, you may get a better workout (lift heavier, last longer) if you eat a decent breaky w/ some complex carbs. Oats w/ a scoop of protein added will take you further than just the shake alone. Anyway, jmo ![]() |

Sorry for the lack of details. I am a 6'8" guy.I'm 19. I used to weigh 280 lbs, i'm now down to 245 which is my ideal weight. I was never obese, i am just a very big guy. My goal is to get lean. About like Edward Norton in American Histroy X (my favorite movie). The shake is a meal replacement that i take. it has 26 grams of carbs in it. It is a meal replacement shake. I'm not hungry at all. I found out today that the shake also contains some Casein Protein as well as egg protein and more. It is a very good shake. It's the B-Fit RX shake from Bally's. In the morning i take the Lite Version, which contains the 20 grams. I work out on the weights. I don't do heavy lifting. I do high volume. Like lower weight. A mid way amount of reps, but more sets. Like on bench i do about 5 sets of 10 or 12. I work out about 5 or 6 days a week. I need more cardio. During the regular year, i play a lot of basketball. So that won't be a problem. But for now i do occasional swimming. And even less occasional running. After i have the 2nd shake, my meals consist of things like a chicken sandwich with mustard a lot of lettuce and and lean chicken that has about 20 grams of protein and 3 grams of fat or so. Then i have another sandwich later on. about 4 hrs later. And the end of the night i have a small amount of Tuna to keep my stomach busy at night. Sometimes during the day i have a smoothie that i make of my own. It only contains natural fruits that i buy at the store. I put strawberries, grapes, and either one or two bananas. Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate the input.
