Cooking meat with a Foreman grill?

Does cooking meat with a Foreman grill take out the nutrients (since many juices end up flowing out the meat altogether)? And short of grilling, what's the best way to cook chicken, lean beef, and fish?

I've recently started steaming just about all of my fish and vegetables because I was concerned about 1) Overcooking and 2) Losing nutrients to the oil that I was cooking the meat/vegetable in.

    Thoughts anyone?

I personally don't think grilling on a Foreman grill takes out THAT much nutrients. Usually when you buy frozen chicken (or whatever) it tends to have a lot of water in it and, to me, it looks like water and fat running off into the drip pan. Sure it may take out some of it but I don't think it's enough to get bent out of shape about. That's just my opinion though.

Do you guys have the Foreman grills with the detachable teflon sheets? Ive had 2-3 grills that are ruined cuz the fuckers are such a bitch to clean. Come to think of it, I know of two friends off hand that have teh same gril with the same uncleanable stains..

I just bought a new one for the same reason but I had the old one a year so I got my twenty bucks out of it since I use it every day. I might get one of those next time.

I only use my Foreman for chicken breast. Everything else comes out too dry.

Mine is about 8 months old and kind of getting nasty despite cleaning it as best as I can.

I use my foreman everyday. I primarily cook frozen chicken breast and thawed flank steak on it. As soon as the food is off and I unplug it, I got at it with a paper towel doubled over a few times. Gets her clean as a whistle. I've had the same foreman for three years now and no worries.

What the hell? Everytime I put chicken on the GF Grill, the meat sticks to the teflon. It literally tears it apart.

I spray pam on mine for the same reason although I just got a new one and don't have that problem. If you clean it with a brillo pad too often the teflon will, of course, rub off in time, and you'll have problems with meat, etc., sticking to it.

I had a room mate in college that was a litte OCD and scrubbed his foreman all the time. Needless to say his food stuck eventually and that grill was shit. Mine was fine, never an issue but as I say I don't scrub it. I just hit it when its still piping hot with a folded over paper towel and I'm good. She gets brand new clean

As for cooking nutrients out of the meat or chicken, thats splitting the atom one step too far for me. What method would be proposed for keeping all nutrients in tact.

I'll second that. Also, clean it while it's still warm. Don't let it sit.

Ive got one at my old place with removable plates which is easy to clean, the one I bought my mum about 2/3 years ago the teflon is pretty much destroyed but it works ok, I might have to 'go at it' with a paper towel while its warm in future though.

You'd be surprised how many people actually clean teflon with course scrub spounges and brillo pads. Not only does it destroy the teflon but it's actually quite toxic to the body when a teflon pan or grill has peeled away.

As mentioned the best way to clean a foreman grill is to use a paper towel and wipe it off while it's hot. Use a wet one with dish soap if you have to and but be sure to cure it afterwards. I've had mine for 8 years without a problem and nothing sticks to it still.

How do you cure it? My parents have cast iron skillets they wash and after they are done they put oil in them and heat them up. Is that what you mean?

Yes, that's curing. The foreman grill shouldn't ever need it if you take care of the teflon coating. I just think it's best to cure anyway to make things last longer. There's a reason my 8 year old foreman grill still looks brand new

I have had mine for over 2 years, and it cleans up perfectly. The trick is to clean it the second your food comes off of it. Clean it with soap and water while it is still hot, and the mess cleans up in under 2 minutes.
