    Diet / Meal Help

Well after reading the Diet thread and seeing how cruel people can still be I was a little afraid to post this thread but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I enjoy working out and like pushing myself during weight training very much. I never have any problems getting up in the morning and going to my gym either. My problem is my eating. Quite frankly I suck at counting calories or understanding when I should eat what types of foods. I am open to any and all advice that is given and yes, a little help in designing a proper meal plan would be nice but I don't expect anyone to tell me exactly what I should eat. I figure I should eat around 1800 - 2000 calories a day if I want to lose weight but I'm open to other suggestions on that as well.

I'm 6'1", 260lbs with a large frame. I do have some good muscle underneath my bodyfat but would guess at this point that I am about 34% bodyfat.

Please would someone help me out?

    Thanks in advance.

That Cal total is extremely low.

What is your current diet like?

What are you proposing for this diet. Can you post proposed meals?

Right. I was actually thinking around 2200 calories a day. Like I said, I'm not great at calorie counting so I don't have totals. My last attempt is at home but it was generally something like this:

    Meal 1
Half whole-wheat bagel with margarine and PB
    1 glass skim milk
    yogurt (occassionally)

    Meal 2
Meal replacement shake (made with water)

    Meal 3
Garden salad with tuna and low-fat dressing
    small portion of almonds (8-10)

    Meal 4
    Protien shake or bar
    small portion of baby carrots

    Meal 5 (summer)
    BBQ'd Chicken Breast
    BBQ'd mushrooms
    BBQ'd potatoes

    Meal 6 (if needed)
Protien shake made with water and fruit

I did try to maintain appropriate portions for all food eaten. Sometimes Meal 3 would be replaced with leftovers in proper portion as well.

fruit in meal 6 isnt the best choice. Carrots, margarine, shakes/bars aint that great either for cutting.

So I should get my fruit earlier in the day then? I was having the margarine as a 'fat' but I can change that too. Thanks for the guidance....

I usually have a fruit in the morning with my oats/whey & egg whites. But then, that is my bigger meal, because I workout early.

For the fats, you can get them from natural peanut butter, olive oil, and you can also suppliment with fish & flax oils. Jodi would know better on this topic -

Is meal 5 your post workout meal? when I'm cutting I don't usually have that type of carb - potatoes/rice that close to my bed time. I usually just have greens or veges.

that's my 2 cents worth anyway.

Thanks for the info Katt. I actually try to workout first thing in the morning. I'll get up and have a glass of apple juice to get my body going then take some supplements (fat burner/ energy). After I workout I'll have meal one.

I know that meal should be larger but I'm at work by then and don't have the ability to cook a meal so it has to be something I can leave in my truck while I workout then eat at work afterwards.

Like I said...this eating thing has me beat! My mind just can't get it figured out, which is sad because I'm actually quite intelligent. LOL

Cut out processed foods a little at a time. Don't pay to much attention to people on steroids. Just eat less junk and eat more single ingredient foods.

There is this thing called cooking, which you do with whole natural ingredients, and there are ALL sorts of things you can put together that taste good!

Cheekiness aside, it is all about eating a wide variety of natural foods, go for locally grown, organic when possible, foods that are in season, and things that your ancestors would have eaten.

A bodybuilding/cutting diet does not need to be boring, or tedious.

Great resources include Chris Aceto's stuff, his wife Laura Cravelle has some fantastic

    Me too

I also love Tom Venuto's burn the fat feed the muscle, there are a few great recipes in that, besides all the dieting stuff.
