    after workout

i saw on a report on THE SCORE channel, they said after the workout to eat liquid protein such as whey shake, cause hard protein will sit on your gut from 2 to 4 hours. is this right? i should be drinking a whey protein shake instead of eating chicken after my workout?

Pretty much yes, liquid (especially whey) is absorbed faster than solid food.

You really want to deliver the nutrients to your muscles as soon
as possible after an intense workout. Try to have your shake within a half hour after your workouts.
A whey shake with a 2 to 1 simple carb to protein ratio works best for me.
The insulin spike that you get from the simple carbs will deliver the protein to your muscles for optimal recovery and restore the glyc in your muscles.
I know some people who chose to skip the insulin spike when cutting because the large amount of insulin that is released will stop fat burning dead in it's tracks.
You have to experiment and see what works best for you.
Do you want optimal recovery?(insulin spike)
    or
Do you want to keep the fat burning by skipping the spike?
When cutting, I've gotten the best results by having one huge insulin spike during the day, which is post workout.
The insulin spike may stop fat burning but it also stops the body from eating away at all your hard earned muscle(cortisol).
    Desicions, Descisions.
Post workout nutrition can be a real bitch when you're cutting.
But if you're trying to put on mass then spike away after your workouts and then eat a solid meal 1 to 2 hours after your shake

Come on folks help the guy out. I'd say 15-45 minutes, but thats obviously not very specific. Solid foods I think start out at 45 minutes to a couple hours, depending on how hard it is to break down the food and whatever else.

Whey protein can be absorbed within ten minutes of ingesting it.
After a workout your muscles are fiending for nutrients.
When whey is combined with a sugary drink or dextrose the absorbtion
of the nurtrients into your muscles will occur instantly post workout.
This is why you want to have a solid meal 1 to 2 hours after your
shake. You have to make sure to feed your body again
with some solid foods to promote optimal recovery and growth.
I am assuming that you are trying to pack on some mass.

It depends on what kind of diet you are on and when you
    are drinking this shake.
Like I said whey is absorbed really quickly.
If you want to slow down digestion,
    the casein from the milk
will definitely slow down the digestion of the whey.
But if you really want the full benefits of the whey
than you should use regular milk or full fat milk.
In addition to the casein the fat will also slow down
the digestion process to ensure that the proteins
will not go to waste. Fat takes the longest time
to digest out of all the macronutrients.
But milk is not the best choice to mix your whey with
    after a workout.
You want to replenish and feed your body as quickly as
possible and milk will only slow down digestion.
If you're tryin to gain mass than milk would be a good
choice to mix with your whey except for post workout.
If you are cutting than I would use peanut butter of flax(the best choice)
at all times except for post workout.
I try to avoid dairy products as much as I can
towards the end of my cuts.

    Gatorade is always good.
You can buy it in the liquid form
or you can buy the crystals.
One seving has 15 grams of sugar.
Remeber you want to have around a 2 to 1
    simple carb to protein ratio.
Mix that shit up and drink away.
I weigh around 210 lbs right now.
I like to get around 60 to 70 grams of
    sugar after my workouts.
I would experiment and see what amounts
    work best for you.
You may need a little more or a little
less depending on your size and the
    intensity of your workouts.

Can you give me some nutrional info on the grape juice?
I have never had grape juice before.
If it is all sugar, no fiber and no fat then
it would be a great choice for your post workout shake.
It's gonna enable the protein and creatine to shoot into
    your muscle like a bullet

    No w8,
I've really never had grape juice before
    because I hate grapes.
Grapes remind me of rooster jewels.

That Welches grape juice(posted by RobNC) looks like a
good choice for post workout spikorama.

Not necessarily. If your job is physical in nature and you don't want to cut then you would need to make sure you're taking in enough calories to compensate. Fats can be used for energy as well. If you wanted to post your diet/stats/goals we could help you out

If your skinny and having a hard time putting on weight, thats one way. You can easily drink 1000 calories at one sitting.

I get plenty of calories from regular food, heck I have to WATCH my calories I don't drink any OJ. Look at the label and see if it fits into your diet plan.

Sugars from fruit/cake/etc (simple sugars) need to be burned right away, if they are not, they turn to fat since sugar cannot be stored inside the body except as fat.

Hence, OJ is not good unless your one of those people who just burns everything they eat. With my activity level these days, I do not fit anywhere near that bill, so for me juices are a no-no.

If you know your bodyfat percentage that will I think really help you know where your at, you don't always have to look like a "fat" person to be mostly made up of fat.

    High Fat/Protein, Low Carb Diet

Look at "Chest Rockwell's" avatar for example, versus mine, I'm 20.5" bodyfat, he's probably 8/9%ish is my guess, he's where I want to be.
