Hello and welcome
First a few questions
How old are you?
Are you tall and lean or short and sort of built?
Have you ever been fat before?

hey all, im somewhat new. this is my first day actually. so for now im just gona ask one question that has been bugging me lately. okay, so here goes.
i went from being a cardio freak,
20 minutes on a treadmill (5 mins walking 15 running)
20 minutes on an exercise bike
doing both of these while wearing 2 shirts, a jacket, and a hoodie
heh
and then almost every day id also go down the street and play basketball for at least an hour, making sure that i sweat real good and kept moving.
and now after doing this forever, i finally decided that i would really love to go the complete opposite direction. starting the first of next month im going to completely dedicate to gaining weight and muscle, im already preparing somewhat buying the gainers and whatnot. but anyways..
since im now trying to gain weight, ive dropped almost all my daily physical activity.
my treadmill is now collecting dust, the basketball is getting flat and cries out my name every now and then, hah. im not a good basketball player at all, and although it was somewhat fun here and there the only reason i mainly played was to get even more exercise.
but yea, finally to the point...(sorry..)
so now instead of doing all that cardio,
i just get on the exercise bike for 10-15 minutes, or somewhere in between.
is this going to be ok for me if im trying to gain weight and muscle?
could i get away with spending 10-15 minutes on the exercise bike every morning,
or should it be an every OTHER morning kinda deal (should i rest a day and then go again the next morning)
and then also, i like to have a protein shake and a bananna in the morning.
so should i do this before, or after my 10-15 minutes of exercise bike?

hey tatyana :]
im 20,
im about 5' 5"
and i would say that im short, and that my arms are small but you can tell there is muscle to them. they arent like flabby, or super skinny. you can definitely tell there is muscle but i still would like for my arms to just be..alot bigger? heh
ive never really been "fat"
there have been times where ive gotten real lazy, and put on some weight and you could see it a bit in my face and my stomach. but that happened very few times over id say like an 8 year period.
i would weigh myself, but i dont have a scale at the moment.
i weighed myself at a friends house about 2 weeks ago, wearing nothing but boxers and i was 138.
I would lay off the cardio if you want to build some muscle.

so even just 10 minutes would be too much?
ok so dropping the cardio completely wouldnt depress me too much i guess (although i still wish i could hop on the exercise bike for 10 mins every now n then, like 2 times a week?) ive always just enjoyed cardio =p but if i have to completely stop it in order to gain weight and muscle, then i am of course completely willing to do so.
but for breakfast this is what i usually do..
either:
1 bananna and a whey protein drink (usually a scoop and a half, and i mix it with water)
orrr - 1 over medium-egg and a whey protein drink (same thing, scoop and a half with water)
should i change my breakfast up a bit or would that be ok?
Breakfast of Champions young man, oatmeal!!!!
Keep the protein and / or eggs, but one egg only has about 100 kcals, and when people say 'protein shake', how many calories?
Is it a pure whey protein shake or a gainer?
Personally, I think people rely on them too much, if you notice, it is called a food supplement, not a food replacement.
What about the rest of the day?

oki, oatmeal.
any certain kind, brand name?
with milk, or with water?
right now im finishing up my GNC whey protein stuff and its more of like the weight management kind with around 230 or so calories i believe.
and you are right about it being a supplement, not a replacement. i guess i shouldnt use them in the mornings..
i do have some BSN TrueMass Gainer, but im waiting to start that until the first of the month.
so how about an over medium egg and then oatmeal?
do i eat both or should i pick one and switch them up here n there?
oh yeah and as for the rest of the day...
before the first of the month i plan to go out and buy all the foods ill begin eating, along with other supplements.
im gona make a thread with all the foods i have and pictures of me to hopefully give people a good idea.
but basically for now i eat alot of vegetables, fruits, protein, and try to do my best with good carbs.
and yea like i said, the first of the month im gona be completely dedicated so im gona make a big thread before then and hope for alot of helpful tips and recommendations. would look forward to seeing your thoughts when i do this :]
ok so i noticed we had some oatmeal stored away in a cupboard.
so this morning i had..
Cream of Wheat Instant (Original Flavor)
Serving Size: 1 packet
Calories: 100 -- Calories with 2/3 cup of fat free milk: 150
Calories from fat: 0
Total Fat: 0
Sat/Trans Fat: 0
Total Carbs: 19
Other Carbs: 18
Protein: 3
I had a packet of this, an over-medium egg, and 2 glasses of water for breakfast. is that a better breakfast for me? and is this the kind of oatmeal I should be eating, or is there something better I should get?
and then also..should I use milk or water? the milk gives it an extra 50 calories and stuff and would proly make it taste a bit better. but yea, feedback is always appreciated :]
dont know why i didnt write down the sugars..but there is 0 g of sugar so yea.
and also..what are "other carbohydrates"..?
didnt understand what that meant at all really.
im currently trying to gain weight and muscle mass, bulking i guess its called.
so milk or water with the oatmeal you think?
Delusional,
Learning how to feed yourself properly is a process, you will make some mistakes.
There are a few threads/stickies on this site about calculating how many calories you need to eat every day.
Calculate daily calorie requirements-BMR
1 whole egg only has about 100-120 kcals in it.
If you want to put on some muscle, you have to eat.
I am a very strong believer in LEAN bulking, which means that you eat healthy food.
FAT is not bad
PROTEIN is not bad
CARBS are not bad
However, all fats, proteins and carbs are not equal.
I would do a bit more reading on your own.
I do want to acknowledge you for your desire to learn, and your desire to take on healthy eating and training
