10 day pack for Hunting

Here’s the deal – we are going on a 10 day hunting trip soon. We take two coolers – one for frozen items & one for just cheese, condiments & refrigerated items.

Being more into the diet now than last year, I am wondering if there is a way I can rethink my choices for food. Granted, we won’t be able to take fresh vege’s in with us, and they don’t pack well in a backpack anyway. This is our normal last years options

bagel sandwiches (meat/cheese) (pack well, they don’t smush)
Instant soups
Peanut Butter
Trail Mix
Protein Bars
Jerkey
Dinners are always pre-packed & frozen – meat, vege’s & potatoes are the norm. Last year I froze spaghetti also which worked our well over the camp fire.
Tuna, fish is not an option – too smelly.

Also we are limited to the amount of water we are taking.. we do have a filter that we bring for streams, but it’s a long friggin hike to get to it!!

Since we will be doing more cardio than we have normally,, duh, obviously.. should I be concerned about the carbs that we are taking in, or not worry about it as long as we are getting enough protein each day?

Thanks - I didn't think about the dried fruit.. I know we always lose weight when we go.. probably the constant walking and higher altitude..

PreMier - yeah rifle elk is pretty fun.. I think most I like the absolute quiet at night... well, almost, except for animal sounds.

Cool. Hunting kicks ass. What about some dry cereal for carbs? Some of them are good to eat just like chips. Just a thought.

Yeah Vortrit- healthy cereals may be an option..

The other half - If you bring all that shit with you and I have to haul the friggin elk out by myself, you're not eating any of the meat....

How many elks are you planning to shoot? What happens if you get your quota before the 10 days are up? Are there any backup plans? And most important - will you have internet access while in the woods?

We have tags for

2 Elk
2 Deer
2 Bear
2 Mt Lion

So,,,, if the elk is done, we have others..

No internet.. no cell service unless we climb to the top of a mountain (which we do all the time)... it's nice

All rifle... we both have one of each animal... that's the great thing about here, the only thing you have to draw for is Moose...

But we missed the deadline

if the day ever comes that we both get our elk and deer, we wont have to hunt the next year then, all our vacation time will be spent in las vegas. like that is ever going to happen. the bear and mountian lion tags are mostly for protection purposes. although i would like to get one nice fat bear and a large tom, someday.

we are planning on doing alot of pushups and using tree branches for pullups.
katt is going to load a log on her back and go up and down the road, kind of like "rocky". so we will still get in plenty of w/o's,.
