best time to take protein and how often

im just wondering when is the time to take protein shakes. should it be taken on days off from weight lifiting, even though some of days might be spent doing another form of excersise?
also, how many shakes a day is recommended?

here is an example of my schedule:
    day1: upper body (1 hr 45 mins)
    day2: cicuit training (1 hr)
    abs ( 1/2 hr)
    day3: legs (1 hr)
    day4: rest
    day5: upper body (1 hr 45 mins)
    day6: run 11 - 13 kilometres (50 - 60 mins)
    day7: rest

so given this, how much protein, and how often should it be taken. should i just take it only on those days spent weightlifing?

Protein is just a supplement to your diet. There should be a source of protein in each of your meals.

    Protein isn't some magical drug.

There isn't some magical number that is thrown up in the air.

I would suggest reading some of the stickies that some of our members have provided. It will help you a great deal, and you will achieve your goals that much quicker.

as iain indicated, protein should be consumed at all times of the day, at every meal. it isn't just something you eat because you're lifting weights.

    read up, chump.

definate times to take it are post workout and in the morning upon wake-up. but you should have a lot of whole food/protein throughout the day
