Red face Drinking H2O after alcohol

This has always been a ponderment of mine and the best way to ask this question is to map out my usual course of events.

    1. Drink 1-2 cups of water.
    2. Go out.
    3. Piss right when I arrive.
    4. Drink alcohol for hours.
    5. Piss every 20 minutes after the first hour.
    6. Get home safely and sip water.
    7. Pissing at this point has slowed down to once an hour.
    8. Drink about half a gallon of water.
    9. Go to sleep.
    10. Get up to piss twice throughout the night.
    11. Wake up dehydrated.

I thought it was kind of odd that when I stopped drinking alcohol entirely, this would be my most dehydrated state. Which is why I drink more water at this point, however, in the morning I feel as if I didnt drink water at all the whole night....

I am thinking about how its gotta be a alcohol:water ratio, but the quantity of water I drink is pretty high, yet I still feel the same if I drink water before I go to bed vs. no water before bedtime.

Shit, sometimes Ill have a water in between drinks.

I've always heard that you're supposed to drink water in between alcoholic drinks rather than a lot only before and after boozing. Tough as hell to do once you get going.

Sure is, which is why its not normally done, however, I have done it and got the same results.

On the contrary, sometimes Ill go out and drink beyond belief and wake up feeling great. Now that is some shit I REALLY dont understand.

This boggles my mind as well. I'll go out and get hammered one night and wake up the next morning feeling like a million bucks, and then some other night I'll sip on a few casuals, have a couple mixed drinks and call it a day and I'll feel miserable.

    Hmm...

Same here... I have tried experimenting with just about everything I can think of. Drinking water before and after, drinking water in between, eating a huge meal before bed..... nothing seems to be consistent. I do find however, beer seems to have the least impact on me the next day, so if I stick to beer and skip the cocktails and shots, I tend to be fine. Although there are still exceptions, where I still feel awful just from beer.

Gotta love those times when you get hammered, drink like a fish, and by some miracle wake up feeling perfectly fine....

If I do go out and drink I generally seem to feel better the next day if I take a lot of water in on the day I'm drinking.

What about popping a few aspirins before bed? I've always heard this is a huge help but I'm usually too cocked to remember to do it.

I have tried the asprin, amongst other methods, but I really wanted to know the story with water. Afterall, alcohol dehydrates you! Water should combat it! But in the scenario I described in the first post, it would seem that I went in hydrated, came out dehydrated, then rehydrated, but became dehydrated again.

1-2 cups of water before you go out don't seem like much. If I am planning to go out I try to take in a massive amount of water that day, and probably a couple of bottles before I go out.

Thats 1-2 cups right before I leave. This doesnt include the regular fluid intake throughout the day. However, I dont include that cuz of possible sodium and caffeine intakes.

Right on. Makes sense. I know I'd really have a hard time drinking water once I get started on the beer. I usually end up waking up in the middle of the night feeling somewhat dehydrated and end up chugging down some water, but that's just me.

You can drink all the water you want, but you have to wait till ADH regulation gets back on track. That can depend on alot of things.

Whenever I get insanely drunk, my wife (who happens to be a nurse) hooks up an IV in my arm and pumps me full of salene. I wake up feeling pretty good. She literally is a lifesaver!

Holy shit, that's almost exactly the same as me, to each point. Except that I usually don't wake up during the night, and still after drinking 1/2 gallon+ of water when I get home, still wake up heavily dehydrated.

Don't break the seal so quickly. Wait to piss. I wont drink water until I get home, but I'll chug a large amount. Then I'll go and get 3-4 water bottles and put them next to me on my nightstand for when I wake up. I always feel fine with that schedule, the only time I get hangovers is with Jack or Hurricanes, neither are somehthing I drink on the reg

When I go out on the town I follow your regimine almost to a tee AKIRA, but the change is before bed. When I am heading out I grab a Powerade OPTION, its their low carb/low sugar version. I slam the 24oz bottle right before bed. Its never steered me wrong yet, and before the low carb stuff it was regular powerade.

With my group I'd be concerned what was in the IV bag. I don't need the Nikki Sixx/ Tommy Lee vodka IV bag

I am about to go out now. Hanging out with some new folks (never drank with them) and I am drinking my water. I already had a protein shake earlier with 2.5 cups of skim milk. I know, not the same, but it made me piss Amoco Ultimate (its clear) and now I am drinking water on top of it.

I wasnt planning on getting stinking drunk, but if I have a good time...and possibly lucky, it might be a long night of drinks.

Wish me luck tonight (and tomorrow morning).

theres nothing you can do about it. when you drink alcohol it drives all the water out of your body (ergo the clear urine after a few drinks). your best bet would be to make sure you hydrate before and after but at the end of the day you will get dehydrated if you are drinking.

personally i drink vodka, water, lime's. still taste's pretty good, you get nice and crushed at a reasonable price, avoid all the sugar and b.s, and it seems the hang over isn't quite as bad.

Yea its rediculous with me i feel so dehydrated every morning i wake up not just after a night of drinking. i am more dehydrated however after a night of drinking even after consuming a couple bottles of water before i call it a night. this raises concern for me because i just bought my first supply of creatine (CL Green Bulge). My roomate whos on green magnitude says that every morning he's so dehydrated that he wakes up with chapped lips. i just wonder how badly i will get when i start taking my creatine and on top of that going out and drinking everyweekend..... anything that can help me supress my dehydration?

Liquor before beer and you're in the clear,

That's all that it comes down to. If you drink enough to make your body absorb more alcohol than your liver can handle, then you will get dehydrated. Alcohol is a diuretic and it will eliminate your body's ability to absorb alcohol. At least this is what I've heard from people. The best thing to do is drink a lot of water when you get done from drinking.
