I haven't had a protein shake in over a month now and I'm getting along just fine.

I still use it, but I've cut back quite a bit. I hardley use it on weekends anymore. Mostly just for PWO shakes.

If I did give up whey though I'd start taking Amino pills.

Kidding, I don't know how I missed that. Yeah, I don't think that it is really needed if like me, you are only really interested in all round fitness as opposed to putting on size.

Get PrimarForece's Substance WPI whey. It's an isolate and it tastes excellent.

Yeah, I'm completely convinced that getting 1g of protein per lb. of bodyweight is overrated for the regular gym goer. IDK if it's just coincidence or what but I've had some great gains since I stopped taking whey. I'm only clocking in around 100g of protein a day and I'm still getting stronger.

I aim for a diet high in protein. Only because I know that I'm food's bitch and when I cheat, it's usually with carbs.

Yeah, oddly enough, I'm at around the same level of protien intake, yet seem to be getting stronger and bigger than when my intake was at a higher level. Wierd.

Whey or casein are not superior to the other proteins.

Come on now... that surely depends on what you mean by "superior".

Fact: Whey will get in your system faster than a steak.
Fact: Casein will remain available in your system far longer than whey will.

i.e. Whey is superior to beef for rapid absorbsion.
And... Casein is superior to whey in preventing the onset of catabolism while sleeping (if taken before bed).

.

Whey or casein are not superior...

It's hard for me to eat my way to a decent amount of protein due to work so I supplement with whey shake in the morning and one pwo.

Is fast absorption really necessary? Is it really necessary for a protein to stay longer in your system?

This discussion is void, because proteins from whole foods can also stay longer or shorter, depending on the food, in your system.
Eg. chicken is also absorbed faster than casein.

Well a fast absorbing protein is obviously gonna be an advantage post workout. A slow absorbing protein is going to be an advantage just before bed.

I have gained much more just by eating more natural protein foods (chicken breasts) and lost much body fat from getting rid of whey protein as a meal or post workout shake, etc. Just my preference though, I'm sure I'll have many that disagree that we should use whey after any workout.

protein shakes are good for on-the-go or pre and post workout... not to mention im never hungry first thing in the morning so i use whey in my MRP shake... i believe whole foods are better than whey and caseins, but whey and casein definitely offer their advantages too. I dont c how u wouldnt want fast absorption after workout and longer in the system while u sleep. I wouldnt want to get up every 2-3 hours at night to eat to keep my body from going catabolic... casein is a savior in that respect.

If you're gonna bury me.... bury me big!!

Same here on the really cutting back. I often do not even use whey for PWO shakes. I've probably drank one or two servings of whey in the past month or two.
